Sydney Pennski 309 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 They say you shouldn’t change a winning combination but I think that the selectors will have to be innovative for the Saints game. We are under pressure to keep winning because of our poor start and we can’t take the Saints for granted but we also have a 5 day turnaround to the next game on Anzac Eve. Expect some interesting selection moves. 1 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,854 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 be interesting to see what happens with preuss and o mac, the latter of who copped concussion brayshaw copped a knock to his knee, i think it was? would be great to see some vfl form from garlett and anb will lockhart's back by right for him to play in the vfl in a couple of days? sounds like jetta might be touch-and-go for in ten days, but anything can happen in ten days IN: jetta, lockhart OUT: spargo, j wagner B: Jetta - Frost - Fritsch HB: Salem - O Mac - Hibberd ? Brayshaw - Jones - Harmes HF: Petracca - T Mac - Hunt F: Preuss - Weideman - Melksham Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Stretch - Hore - C Wagner - Lockhart Emerg: Spargo - Kolodjashnij - ANB - Garlett Quote

What 18,810 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 (edited) We have a big advantage next week... the Saints are playing on Sunday afternoon, while we will be coming off a huge break. In - Jetta, Lockhart Out go two of Stretch, Spargo, C Wagner or J Wagner Edited April 11, 2019 by Petraccattack Quote
GCDee 3,202 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 OMac has concussion... so I’d say he misses a week. Is May back next week?? Quote
Wiseblood 24,637 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Lewis will come back in. Mahoney, I think it was him anyway, said he would have played this weekend if it wasn't a Thursday game. With a longer break they might get Jetta back in the side too. I'd save Steven May for ANZAC Eve. Give him as much time as possible to ensure he is ready to go. 4 Quote

The only incident I can remember was the collision with buddy and he played a fair bit after that, so with the extra break I'd be guessing he'll be ok. Think they'll save may for Anzac Eve even if he is ok, just to save him coming back to a very short turn around 1 Quote
ArtificialWisdom 4,045 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 In: Lewis, Lockhart, Jetta(hopefully) Out: Stretch, Spargo, J Wagner (unlucky I thought he showed some good signs last night but Hore was better) Lewis back frees Salem to move up to the wing like he was playing early in JLT. I'd like to see his ball use going inside 50. Spargo was ok but little more than that. If Lockhart is fit he deserves to play again Quote
Thehardtackler 785 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 (edited) Lewis and Jetta need to come in but I really feel Garlett needs to be given a shot. The outs are difficult though. Probably Stretch, Josh Wagner and Oscar MacDonald. Lockhart lacks the experience that we need right now in a must win game. Garlett is an ego player who will deliver when you really need him to, on the big stage. Edited April 11, 2019 by Thehardtackler Quote
Smokey 4,391 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 I'd be happy with Lewis for Omac (concussion) and leave it at that. Save our weapons for Anzac day eve i.e May and Jetta and to a lesser extent Garlett (hoping to see some form in the VFL weekend). This isn't because I underestimate St Kilda FWIW. ANB stays out regardless of casey form for mine. Needs a few good games there to regain his confidence, and I truly hope that happens because when his head is screwed on he is a valuable asset Quote
Garbo 1,567 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Spargo offered nothing and was a late in for Lockhart anyway so that is the first charge I've been a supporter of Oscar for a long time thinking he just needed time, but last night he was diabolical, a witches hat would have been more effective. So for mine any one is an upgrade right now, Petty is the next KPD off the rack give him a few weeks till May is fit as he certainly can't be worse Quote

On Oscar's first 4 weeks Petty will be no worse. I would keep Billy in as he needs a few games strung together, not being dropped after one, when he contributed and added some pace. Pretty sure he didn't turn it over last night. Edited April 11, 2019 by Redleg 1 Quote

I must have been watching a different game - can't tackle unless the opposition player is stationary, won't pick up a player, runs around aimlessly, is slow, on all meaningful stats from last night was last- may one day be OK but in MHO needs a year in the twos to show if he has or has not got the potential the coaches think he has. 1 Quote

stevethemanjordan 6,952 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Hindsight or not, Preuss should have been our starting 22 from round 1. I was wanting it to happen and others were too. The way he was deployed last night is exactly what we need, it's just annoying that it's taken until round 4. Goodwin played him deep on Aliir and it worked a treat. Aliir murdered us as an intercept player last time we played the Swans at the G. Everyone knows we're sketchy with our skills, our entries are not always clean and we have players who have a tendency to rush their kicks. This is why playing a monster deep in the forward-line is important for a team like us. He drags away an important oppo defender, it allows for T-mac to get up the ground and it completely straightens us up. As long as our mids continue to assess what's ahead, it gives us so many more options compared to playing Weid and T-Mac inside 50. It's a huge change. ANB out of the side was also a very welcome change. He was literally just creating more congestion when he was playing. Usually doing nothing when around the ball and allowing his opponent to be a get out option for when the oppo were winning the ball. Spargo is a very smart player with ball in hand even if he's not overly quick. He usually always weighs up his options and makes smart choices with disposal. He stays. Trac is improving every game now. Just needs to stay as clean as possible. If Hunt continues to take his chances, hit the scoreboard and use the ball in a smart way, he clearly stays because his speed and chase down ability is needed. I think the addition of Garlett in this kind of a set-up on a big ground like the G could really help too. If he chases and pressures at Casey this weekend, I think we play him against the Saints. Forward-line becomes much more dynamic and unpredictable due to short hit up leads from talls like Weed or T-Mac, going long to a Preuss contest, giving Petracca or Melksham a one-on-one chance (both strong in the air) or if the ball hits the ground we have speed in Hunt, Garlett and Spargo to really pressure. I'd like to mention that Petracca's willingness to chase and harass the opposition inside 50 was a highlight last night. He worked extremely hard off the ball. Whatever happens, the forward line must stay the same for a while. Backline clearly needs to change. Oscar. Frost. Happy to play the Saints without Oscar this week. Coincedence that we looked so much better off when he wasn't on the ground? 9 1 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,547 Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 St Kilda will be a tough assignment and they exposed us for pace last year as the large expanses of the G. A win of any sorts would be fantastic in the scheme of things. However, if we managed to win by 5 goals we'd be 2-3 with a percentage of 85%. Last year after round 5 we were 2-3 with a percentage of 88%. No more than 2 changes. In - Lewis Jetta Out - One of the Wagners, O Mac (if concussed) 3 Quote
