"Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated..."

@Sir Why You Little - he kicked those three goals for you.

That’s the only place he can play

Should never play up the ground again, his form had been atrocious for a long time in the middle.

But if he can kick 1-2 goals a game he may keep a spot

Have to agree with you SWYL. Too slow to run off half back or through the middle, way too slow to run a wing.

If HFF is his place, mustn't go up the ground too far. Nothing wrong with that (particularly for a bloke that carried a team during the dark years).

Captain's game tonight.

Absolutely, he should have been moved forward at least a year ago

he has had his time in the guts, it happens to all players. I am happy if he is kicking goals, i hate watching him being repeatedly burnt in the middle

Last week it was so blatant

Goody got it right with alot of players tonight, not just Jonesy. Big Pruessy has freed up Maxy big time. Had so much to give in the last quarter.

I was never convinced he had the pace or body positioning to play off the HBF, plus he isn't a beautiful kick, but he has always been a strong overhead mark and reasonable set shot for goal. So I've been baffled as to why we've attempted to play him back.

I'm not sure he has the place or agility to play as a permanent forward, so hope we keep rotating him in a way that creates a mismatch for his attributes.

Hopefully he can find consistent form in that role to hold a spot.

We all should.

You gave him no credit for a very good game and just bagged him.

It was a mean post as I said.

The truth sometimes hurts red, nothing vindictive about it.

Maybe a little curt, but none of us are getting any younger and our time is very much now. No point beating around the bush

Just watching the replay again. Gets muscled off it by Heeney and the ball slingshots back for a Sydney goal to Ronke. He'll be too slow to play forward on the 'G too.

He's only just turned 31. I remember a few years ago in the early rounds I thought Kade Simpson and Jarryd McVeigh were both absolutely shot. Both are 34 now.

He mostly looks terrible right now but there's still time for Jones to adapt and turn it around.

I reckon he looks very stiff in the back and isn't bending or turning anywhere near like he can even for his age and games played. He might just warm in to the season with a bit of match fitness and maybe the back loosens up.

He showed some heart tonight and did the job required. Well and truly earnt his spot and hopefully he's on the upswing.

I agree  SWYL.

Jones hasn't been in our top 4 mids for several years now and last night just exemplified there CAN be a role for him forward for the remainder of the year. Thus having a respectful year for him, but being realistic on his abilities.

No room for sentiment necessarily unless your last name is Flower or Stynes IMO these day.

I would expect nothing less from Goody as coach

He did play a very good game and a big part of getting us over the line, but it was due ,maybe overdue ,it was round 4.

Hope he maintains the form against the Saints and shows the way again . Last year was a huge disappointment against them. Has a bit more to do to really restore the faith.

Jones unquestionably had a good game and was crucial at various times, stepping up and kicking a memorable captains goal. A lot to like about his game last night.

The weight of averages must be satisfied however, last nights game while enjoyable doesn't satisfy my concerns of him as a player based on rounds 1-3. He needs to build on this and bring this leadership to the ground week in week out.

A great start for Jonesy and it's really important he continues along this path.

It is a simple comment. Acknowledge someone's good game, no need to bag them after a good game, especially when the player is a great of the club.

Gee Heeney beat him in a contest, he must be the first person Heeney has ever beaten in a contest. Ask Oscar what he was doing when Heeney took that mark over him, without Oscar even trying to spoil.

A well balanced post.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
