This! Can’t believe everyone is so down on their selection. I thought Corey was pretty good round 1 and was unlucky to be dropped. His disposal looks clean which is something we lack and he was hard at it. Josh looks inboard a lot...we can do with more of that too

Y'know, Swimmer, I also thought that the Wagners were go-ers,  as well. It will be good to see them tonight, launching at the ball...

I guess the only mild consolation is their ins are no better than ours

Ouch!

Corey Wagner very stiff to be dropped after round 1. Was one of the few who was having a crack and at least applying some tackling pressure up forward. Looking forward to seeing him have another go tonight.

With the time delay it’s on at 4.50 here which is too early to settle down and watch the game so I’ll have it on record. At least I’ll be able to fast forward the bad parts. If we lose this game I’ll be prepping the microwave and putting on my Spider-Man costume.

ashamed to say I put $10 on Essendon to win by 40+ @ $15.00 as misery insurance...

Don't be ashamed, whatever it takes to remain sane as an MFC supporter.

The sad part is I made decent money out of the loss to Port by backing both sides, we kicked the 1st 2 goals which triggered a promo payout and then my other bet on Port also won....saddest $200+ ever

so we lose by 11 goals?

Save that for the Prelim i reckon... :)

Got through the second half of last weeks game in 19 seconds.

Well I'll be buggered ......... a H&A fixture on Friday night.  How novel is that?  Let's make it a memorable one Dees.  Start our season  rolling, and mount an undeniable case with the AFL for six Friday nighters in 2020.

Gloomy place demonland these days.

About tonight.  I can imagine what both coaches did all week.

Essendon - Looked at the tape against Geelong and know we bomb it to 20m  9/10 times.  They’ll have their defensive tactics sorted and have 3 defenders dropping back, and the others spreading to get outside leaving plenty of Melbourne players free (as we never take the best options)

Melbourne - Looked at the tape against Geelong and know we bombed long 9/10 times despite plenty of free players in our forward 50.  Directed to always take the free option.

If we win contested possession and clearance (expected) and do what Goody is asking and take free options heading inside 50 we’ll win easily.

If Essendon lose contested possession (expected) they need to pressure our mids so we bomb.  They are a good chance if that happens.

Hopefully tonight is the start of a turnaround.

I reckon Essendon will be more focused on fixing their own game plan than to watch the opposition. That's what I'm hoping for anyway. It'll make for a very average weekend if we lose tonight.

If we lose tonight I’ll [censored] spew.

We’ve lost our past 5 matches now (Prelim, JLT 1+2, Round 1+2). That’s a bad form slump. We need to turn that around tonight or our season will quickly slip away as we lose touch with the top 4/8.

I feel sick heading to the ground at the moment. I have no confidence we can get the job done and am confused how such a talented list can perform so poorly.

FIRE UP DEMONS FFS!!!

Beginning to feel ill with anticipation

Me too how does the club hold so much over me. i do not know the players or staff (although I feel i do)  I let the club have the control over my state of mind..   yet I have no control over the result.  Thats footy I suppose........    and I bloody love it

Just heading in from Scumbury. Have an odd feeling of confused confidence.

Maybe it’s the vibe from the happy looking group of dees supporters nearby

More likely it’s because I’m horribly sober for this hour of the day

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
