stevethemanjordan 6,952 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Harmes' inconsistency in performance to date is killing us. He is way down in ball use, making stupid decisions, missing tackles and fumbling balls. Someone who I believe is pretty chuffed about his 2018 and is expecting it to happen again. He needs a wakeup. I fear that Trac is too caught up in his own mind about wanting to be 'the man'. It's almost as if he believes he needs to do something spectacular every time the ball is in his area which takes his concentration away from the basics. Clean first possession, make the right decision, hit a target. Etc. Jones clearly needs to lift significantly. Can't believe how much his skills have dropped off. Fumbling, missed kicks, missed handballs etc. ANB.Goodwin needs to wake up and drop the guy. Physically, he is supposed to be an extra number at the contest because of his running ability. Over the last two weeks I have never seen someone have such little influence as an extra number at a contest. What is he offering us? Jetta and Hibbered. WTF is wrong with them? If we get a 15% lift from those guys, we win on Friday night. Viney is back on track even if he's playing sore. Brayshaw needs to learn to become damaging with the ball. Oliver is a freak. Max needs one better this week. Tom and Weed will be fine if we start kicking it to their advantage and not between them both. Dees. 6 Quote

Agree with most of this, in particular about Trac, I think he's working pretty hard at the moment, hence his tackle numbers but is just trying too hard. It will all click very soon and then his natural skill will take over. A little harsh on Harmes, he still leading the tackle count while coming back from a pretty ordinary finger issue. He's one who really needs a set job though, and against Port they let him run free then swapped and changed him against the cats. Sit him on Merrett this week. The fumbles are a massive killer this year, as you pointed out it's impacting a lot of players, hoping this is something that can be fixed at training, otherwise we'll continue to give up big runs of goals during games. 1 Quote

buck_nekkid 6,103 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Hore, Kielty, C Wagner, Stretch in May, Sparrow, out, 2 more out of a group you could throwblanket over ( about 5 others) who would be lucky to hold spots. Hore into the backline, Salem to HB. Kielty backup ruck and 3rd tall forward. Stretch to wing. Wagner as pressure forward. TMac to play high, weids from pocket or square. Trac from pocket or square. Garlett back via Casey. 1 Quote

Jetta's role is to beat his own opponent (and a few of them further up the flanks) whilst amending the mistakes caused by OMac in the coverage of OMac's opponent. He then backs up against HIbberd's opponent if Hibberd is more proximal to OMac's opponent and Hibberd is caught leaving his opponent to so do. (Three opponents for Jetta due to error management and in clearance roles, sometimes more.) 2. Hibberd's role is to beat his own opponent and to create running clearance contests against a whole opposition defence, at times. Essentially, he can do this. He also is required to back up against Jetta's opponent - leaving his own temporarily - if Jetta is already engaged in leaving his direct opponent to back up the gaping cavity in defence left by OMac. (At least three opponents for HIbberd. Sometimes more in the clearance role.) Fair dinkum, just watch .... Quote

Viney's lack of run in the Port game, clearly because OMac put his socks on the wrong feet first, Jones's dropped mark - OMac sneezed in grade 2, Petracca dropped marks against the Cats - OMac was on the same ground at the time. I get it now, drop OMac and we win every game by at least 300 points!! Seriously Jetta and Hibberd are horribly out of form and we need them to get the spark back quickly. Hibberd's run has been ok, but every kick is higher than it is long, not sure if there's been 1 mark from his kicking this year. And Jetta has been beaten so many times 1 on 1 this year, which is not like him. Quote
nosoupforme 3,085 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) Preuss to come in and help Gawn rotating at full forward to stretch their back line and nothing to lose in bringing Jeffy in for his goal sense, crumbing, speed and experience. Stretch must be given a chance to play as he has strung some good games together and is looking good. We have to play Jeffy as well because of his experience and goal sense plus his speed is an asset IMO could't do any worse. I like Sparrow and Lockhart however now is the time for them to string some consistency in the VFL and be made to earn their games. IN. Stretch, Jeffy and Preuss. Out. May inj. Lockhart Sparrow. With the lack off acountability last week I can't see a big man like Preuss coming in & to be honest, Stretch has been off Goodwin's radar for 2 years now so I don't expect him to play (although exactly what they need ATM). Hore wont play as he missed last week & will start at Casey & Goodwin will go with a smaller defender like J Wagner over Keilty. Jeffy....not yet! Might be the 2 Wagners in......May, Sparrow/Trac out Quote

By the time the sling shots got down his end he was either out numbered or the ball was flying over his head. We are not dealing with the deficiecies of individuals but rather a big game plan problem in my opinion. This is a rerun of last season where we played dumb footy, I likened us at the time in boxing terms as Rocky Balboa trying to slug our way to victory. It intimidated some of the bottom teams by sheer force but we got taken apart by teams that had a bit of talent and a sophisticated, adaptable game plan, e.g. boxing ability. Example early on the Hawks and Swans worked us over big time. Somehow we worked through this to become a force. It seems to me we have regressed to last year for some reason. I completely agree, I started a thread about our inefficient game plan last year. Effectively wanting to see us spread, lead to space, and kick efficiently. However this is a changes thread, and O.Mc is simply no good. He gets out muscled easily, spoils when he should mark, and has a horrible kick in him. Preuss will provide a better hit up, as well as reduce any burden on Gawn and allow he and even T.Mc swing between the defence and up forward. 2 Quote
Thehardtackler 785 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) Jeffy in is a no brainer. Some of the other players that people like to take potshots at should have warmed up their muscles properly by now and should find some form this week. Let’s hope ANB, Jetta, Viney, Jones, Hubbard and T Mac all have blinders. Edited April 3, 2019 by Thehardtackler Quote

However, why would Oscar not have been dropped by now if you're arguing that their poor form is solely because of Oscar's mistakes? What does it have to do with their ball use, composure and touch? Nothing. Quote
