I think the comparisons are fair because, body type aside, De Goey is an explosive goal scorer with X factor oozing out of every pore.

Petracca has X factor oozing out of every pore yet only ever threatens to explode or score heavily.

Our club has enough experience with this kind of almost-but-not-quite promise to know when to draw the line and cut our losses.

It's this year or bust for the Tracc.

We often draw that line way too late.

It's curious how some players have had eternity to come on.  .and others derided.

We are far from really being that astute MR. Wish we were.

You're right though if you suggest it's put up or shut up for Mr Petracca

Very bizarre, I’ve hated Collingwood for my entire life. Could not stand Buckley as a player but I love him as a coach, wore the brunt of constant criticism & turned he’s side around. Every time he speaks he is levelled headed & speaks sense (if only the feral supporters followed suit).

His coaching performance last night was brilliant, It feels odd but I have a new found liking & respect for the pies & bucks since about mid way through last season. Hats off to them.

They’ll be flag favourites off the back of that performance but Richmond allowed Collingwood to get the game on their terms, it was a well coached & executed game plan but Richmond will learn a lot from last night.

Haw v Coll Sounds like an odd pairing, i'm guessing they haven't ever played against each other in a grand final in vfl/afl history before.

The guy was in obvious discomfort yet he stayed out there for the majority. Was this a similar case to our J Smith in a sense it couldn’t get any worse or they simply didn’t have a clue it was that bad?

Hopefully Petracca watched the game last night and realised that a player taken 3 picks after him in the draft has left him for dead in terms of career progression.

I read somewhere that Roos was massive on De Goey prior to the draft, but Brayshaw and Petracca were no brainers for us at the time.

Reports are it is a broken bone so I guess it couldn't get any worse so they let him play (or he insisted) on.

I was surprised. Fall on the outreached hand and pain+++ in the wrist like that is a scaphoid fracture until proven otherwise... Saving grace was he really didn't seem to us that hand much when he went back out... he couldn't.

Collingwood are the team to beat this year. We are at least 10 goals behind them at the moment.

Yes... but my point is,  were still taking talents that are immature in mind.   Too timid in mind, to become what they're skills could allow them to be...  if they had a more robust attitude.

Petracca is looming as the biggest disappointment at the Club over recent years. 

Like many, when I first saw him in a Melbourne jumper, I was excited and wrapped that we snatched him away from the Saints. 

For a kid that promised so much, apart from a few cameo moments, his inability to develop into the player he could be is a huge disappointment. Lets face it, at many other clubs he would be strolling around a local ground smelling the grass. 

Many of us have been hoping each week to see a change, to see a break-out game. However this season he turns up overweight, unfit with little sparkle. I am sure he will pop up for a brief highlight or two, but his lack of development as a top line player now has a permanent look about it.  He has the potential to be a match winner but it just has not materialised or even got close.

Perhaps his off-season surgery can explain his condition and poor form in the opening match, but unless his form tuns around quickly, Casey beckons. 

Rather than an excitement machine, he has become a disappointment machine.  Once there may have been a favourable comparison with De Goey but not now.

mindset, bloody mindset.  all it is, is mindset.

One is a desperately wannabe star...  who will take anything on to show he can.

The other likes to hobnob with those who have already made it...  and he seems satisfied to be in other big-names speed dial lists.

We keep going for the nicer recruits...  When the comparison is, the other potential recruit is on the edge.   Still playing safe.   So what if the guy has traffic violations,? or similar.

 

Melbourne still plays it too clean-skin at the draft.    I thought we had moved past this fairy-fluff stuff,  but apparently not.

i'd said it before but i don't think trac will ever have a break-out game - he's very comfortable having those 15-25 disposal, 0.1-3 goal, 3-7 marks, 1-4 tackle games so that when it's at the upper echelon - say 22 disposals, 2 goals 1, 6 marks, and 3 tackles - he looks like he's going to go to the next level

he's also a completely different sort of player to de goey who is more of a marking target up front than petracca ever will be

This pains me.   DeGoey is one of the players I had identified as a running player type with height and speed, for our mid-zone part of the ground.   Didn't realise he would also be so good forward as well.

I had identified a few running players that draft,  that I thought we could maybe get to by mid 1st Rnd

 

... others of interest from memory,  were Laverde,  touk Miller,  jPickett,  Vickers-willis

 

Dee-Goey,  I remember having a play with his name,  in the posts,  was my Fav... bug-a !

Same penalty for Cox and Grimes.  I thought Cox just stood his ground and the other fella ran at him.  Grimes led with his elbow, a clear retaliation.

I would have cleared Cox and given Grimes 2.  but waddo I know?  not much
