Wow. To use the usual analogy, I assume you would also agree with this logic:  all dogs are animals; all animals have four legs; therefore all dogs have four legs.

It has been well covered elsewhere that Misson is leaving to travel overseas to accompany his wife who has a new job in Canada.

The findings of the review into our sport science team PJ announced last year haven't been shared with members which is disappointing given we would like to know the outcome before launching into another season. Most agree we have had a spate of foot injuries, reoccurring injuries, examples of poor injury management and deciding when players are match fit and right to play AFL. LDVC what would you expect to happen to the leader of a team that has had a review announced  into their teams concerning performance in a ruthless results based industry? My views is they are respecting his tenure and don't want to pay out his contract. He wisely has seen the writing on the wall and looked at other opportunities with his family. Seems like good timing and all the best to him. He joined us when no one else wanted to

Seeing as you asked, I wonder why anyone assumes that the announcement of a "review" must mean that whatever is being reviewed must be problematic? I would expect a well run club (or business or government agency, etc) to conduct ongoing reviews of all aspects of its business including those sections which appear to be running well. To not do so risks (1) inefficient practices, (2) not identifying corruption, (3) ignoring potentially fatal flaws, (4) misdiagnosing problems, (5) failing to operate at the optimal level.

I have no idea whether Dave Misson's position was at any risk. But I do know we made finals in 2018 for the first time in many years, and maybe his work contributed to that result.

And your summation that he "looked at other opportunities with his family" is frankly misogynistic and assumes that his wife only looked at getting a job in Canada because her husband's position was fraught. What nonsense.

I know you've never rated him, but just as now, you've never known the ins and outs of our medical team, in order to back up those opinions.

Never mind the fact that he was an integral part of the team that got us as far as the Preliminary finals. Just got to love the “sow’s ear from a silk purse” brigade on here.

When I reread your comments this morning, there is nothing that I disagree with. I thought your tone was a bit over the top but again this morning it seems appropriate.

Jack Viney played on the ball,
Poor Jack had a great fall;
Threescore men and threescore more,
Cannot place Jack Viney as he was before.

Jack Viney lay in a moon-boot,
With all his sinews wrecked in his foot:
Forty Doctors and forty wrights,
Couldn't put Jack Viney to rights!

Jack Viney played again on the ball,
Poor Jack had another great fall;

All the King's horses and all the King's men,
Couldn't put Jack together again.

Hey diddle diddle

that Jack in the middle

the bull can't jump,  just fall

The others just laugh

to play this sport

and just run away with the ball

So has our medical team all moved to West Coast?

WEST Coast goalsneak Willie Rioli has been ruled out of Saturday night's clash with Greater Western Sydney and is facing an indefinite spell on the sidelines as the Eagles continue to investigate his foot issue.

However, in better news, small forward Jamie Cripps is a chance to make a surprise early return from toe surgery alongside star spearhead Josh Kennedy in his 200th club game.

Rioli, who booted 28 goals in his debut season, is battling a stress reaction in his foot and didn't train at Subiaco Oval on Tuesday.

Or maybe foot and toe injuries, such as we have seen with Viney and McDonald, are common in the AFL?

Jack was silly,  pushing shytte up hill, to be fit for the season propper
Jack fell down,  his foot was ill,  and now has come a cropper

he's now lost his crown, 'mean-est on ground'

Twas written in the paper,  'sore foot is all',  will miss one round, or then, maybe later.

TMC came down, that same worn path

did tumble, as did Jack...

he broke his toe,  heard one did laugh,  No matter !

We'll numb dat pain, and keep-him playin'.  No matches will be lost !

Did come a day, when all that pain, was just to much to bear

'bring Pedo' in, I heard 'em say, or maybe go with Frost

both did well, around the ground, and especially the latter.

Big Max's gawn down.  I heard 'em frown.. and silence that did follow

Twas [censored] a wake around that ground, with sorrow they did mourn

We'll have him back, by next week !  or he's name not Maxy Gawn.

Alas Ol' chums,  final's had come, an ending O' in Perth,

The sudden return, all shocked around,  'a thud' back down to Earth'

A New day's Yawn,  2019 dawns,  Pre-season was the word,

Got Max a partner,  'He's tearing it up',   A sharing of the load

Preuss by name,  a big man came, from near Dynan Road

The ruck is sorted, He'll not miss a game !!   "We've got this",   It's ours to keep'. they all were heard to say.

... but some did say,  'lets not astray',  with 23 rounds to go,

'One game at a time's, to slow to keep, now Vander's in the clinic.

Then Jack did waddle, 1st game back, supporters in a muddle

Beware false dawns, as Rnd 2 yawns, the cattery is no picnic

Lookin' to the day,  after afray,  May's wearin' RednBlue,

and KK to the fore, replacing Hore, with Keilty in the thick'o'it

Watts all this fiddle da dee,  game One down,  alls a frown

The Cats await in lurch, til Dees do show, down Kardinai Park

This week,  late in March

You make references to government, corruption and bring misogynistic. Are we still talking about footy injuries? It was a one off review after a spate of foot and other injuries. When it comes to injuries we are poor at communicating and managing them. Feel free to keep your head in the sand though

Assuming someone has a misogynist view based on a pretty basic observation is key board warrior stuff. Play the ball

May pulls up sore.  Goes off.  Gets assessed.  Allowed to come back on?  Now we know he will miss weeks for the same issue he was assessed for?

a) Why did he go back on?  Medical call?  Player?  Coaching staff?  Medicos would have cleared him surely.

He will miss more than this week.

From afar I have always given the benefit o the doubt to the medicos....but....

The benefit is getting smaller; the doubt bigger.

One day we will learn the short term pain (rule him out), gives you long term gain (plays round 4).

Viney had his foot iced post Sautrday's game having played for 3 qtrs.  (His game time is being managed; played a bit over 2.5 qtrs vs Port).

There is an interview with Mahoney on club website where it is mentioned Viney wasn't at recovery yesterday.  No reason was given so his absence may not be football related.  Mahoney did say he will be fine to play Friday night.

Friday is a must win game so I guess he has to play.  But I will be a lot more confident in his durability when he can consistently play 4 qtrs.

I just hope that in our desperation we don't push it too far and risk him being out for parts of the season.

Edited by Lucifer's Hero

Did anyone watch Viney closely on Sat, was he limping?

excuse my ignorance LH but does playing 3 quarters mean be played 75% game time or sat out a quarter?  if the former I would have thought that is pretty good game time for Viney

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
