Interesting, with Chris Hemsworth being a big doggies fan I do wonder if he had a hand in this decision somewhere along the line.

Still not as bad as that Golden Logies Hawks jumper, that takes the cake for garbage jumpers.

I’d like to see some kind of protest by Dogs’ supporters, either by flooding the club with emails or simply not turning up at Marvel Rd 1.

We are starting to cross lines that shouldn’t be crossed, when a club starts to lose part of its identity for garbage jumpers and portrayal of players as superheroes, we are getting awfully close.

I find it a bit sad actually if they have to resort  to this for extra dollars.

What's the chance our new corporate overlords have either kicked in funds to make this happen, or (more likely) ordered the AFL to put the frighteners on and make it happen under an obscure clause in the sponsorship contract?

The post above about dressing up as Spiderman is probably more than a figment of some marketing apparatchik's imagination. They're probably measuring up Nathan and Max for sizes right now.

Many of us were joking at the time it was announced (the unholy marriage of the AFL and the comic book company) but it was always highly likely that they weren't going to be spending all those $$$$ without infiltrating our game with their toys and cosplay.

Why do you imagine the Dogs are the first cab off the rank and not Collingwood or Hawthorn?

This is only the start of it.

The Adelaide Crows have also announced that the team will be running out in full corpse paint to emulate Eric Draven.

If we are going corpse paint let’s do it properly. Gorgoroth style!!!

While it is a god awful jersey other sports have themed rounds which do very well. The NRL do a superhero round & jersey sales are a big upside of it especially for kids.In saying that they do look better in a NRL version as they have sleeves which round it out nicer

Not having a direct dig at you D from Syd, but I reckon that if putting your head in a bucket of water 3 times and taking it out twice was considered a success in the USA, they'd be people saying it was a good idea here too.

Asked and answered.

Are they playing under AFLX rules in this game?

AFLX, Thorful jumpers...seems like the AFL executive has identified 10-year olds as their key target market.

Okay I suppose its for the younger members of the audience but it's getting very close to cringeworthy.

Almost Meat Loafesque one could say.

Could it be coming from the same marketing area that gave us the AFLX? If so I think they need a little guidance from elsewhere.

Stadium entertainment is hard but if you are smart it can be done. I hear the pre game act at the new Perth stadium is a good as it involves the stadium itself coming to life.

Trouble with this being 'about the young fans' is that it isn't an optinoal extra special outfit for the kids, it is the required, compulsory, team uniform.

"We are trying to increase our reach to kids, so all patrons at the MCG will be required to only consume Happy Meals and Kinder Surprises (except Jack Watts who will be given Wizz Fizz and then pilloried for it)"

I don't know how to react to this news except with the traditional remedy of mockery and ridicule.

We could play along and point out that (according to Marvel) Thor's homeworld was completely destroyed by a giant red Demon... Or... that the Bulldogs better watch out because if Gil snaps his fingers, half the clubs in Victoria will disappear and you can bet the Bulldogs will be found to be surplus... Or... that when the Avengers want to look serious they wear Melbourne guernseys... Or... a bunch of Demon supporters can turn up to our first game there wearing X-Men outfits...

But really, a deafening, disinterested silence is probably the way to go.

F' it. I dunno. The single instance itself is just too stupid to care more than being momentarily irritated.

Theyre kinda ok, cause its related to the sport and promoting culture etcetera. This other stuff is just blatant Americanism that is not even remotely related to aussie rules.

I can picture a future conversation with my son:

once upon a time there was this great game called Aussie Rules. Then a [censored]-end by the name of Gill took control and sold the game for some magic beans.  so to answer your question, that is why the Demons are wearing capes on this jernseys

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
