I reckon we need to lose this weekend to sing up the 'ironic' supporter base and once they are signed we start winning to pickup the 'winning' supporters. Relax we've got this!

Classic old dee. With four months left, you think we'll struggle to sign 1,200 more memberships to get to 45,000.

Just for comparison, in 2013 (peak Mark Neeld) we signed 7,000-odd members between March and July.

That would get us to 50,000.

Yes but we started with half the current level, at 45000 we are approaching our max IMO. After that you need people who gave up on the Dees some time ago. You think losing the first two games of the year will have them running to the phone with credit cards in their hands? 

If our form of the last three games continues we could easily be 0- 4. That will really get the numbers ticking over.

you see it all depends on winning once you get to the current level in fact it is only at this level because we had a good year in 2018. Expectation has been high, it will have got the staggers Saturday afternoon and only a win at the chattery will change that. It would be our third win in thirty years down I am not holding my breath.

Stynesy was 40,000 and we've last 2 years smashed that and I believe 55,000 is achievable if we win a no of games early in the season.

I realise you only posted  GIF (which I hate all of them) but let's be positive and support the Board their aims for the Club to achieve greatness and join the big Victorian Club cartel.

Look st the figures after our losses to Hawks Tigers last year people still sign on so 50,000 plus is not a pipe dream.

70000 is exactly that, a dream. It would be fantastic. It would put us right up there but unlike the power clubs that practically start the year with enormous numbers and then build, we have had what is now an institutionalised smallish membership. 

To dramatically change that, to break the crippling chains and create inertia there is only one, I repeat ONE recipe. Sustained success. This needs a very steady climb with no faltering.

Irrespective of what many here feel is deserved , in terms of numbers growth, it isn't. We don't deserve increases as such, you earn it. 

We haven't really earned anything yet.

I just have my understanding of what it would require.

We have a little momentum at present. If that falters 70...60...hell 50... becomes a pipe dream.

Make at least the prelims this year.  50-55 possible in 2020

Money is hard come by . Too many pressing requirements grabbing it. The diehards are already members. It's the fence sitters who'll be the increase. They have real life demands.

What's this fascination with having 70,000 members? I'd settle for having 30,000 full members who turn up, make some noise and support the team each week, as opposed to having a truck load of 3 game members who come for marquee games and nothing else. 

Look at Hawthorn who get 60K crowds twice a year for Easter Monday and against Collingwood, and 30K the rest of the year.

Having a big membership base just means that every game is ticketed and you have to fight to get to finals. Sure some extra money is nice, but it is not the difference between winning a premiership and being an also ran.

poita I think you have forgotten the most important part the "Money" without that nothing happens. And we need lots of it for the new training facility in the Docklands.

I understand the point you make, but one of the big selling points to sponsors is access to the membership database. I don't know how much value it adds in absolute dollar terms, but I'm sure the more members there are (irrespective of the type of membership or whether or not they attend games)  the more a sponsor is willing to pay to get access to that mailing list. Hence, getting the maximum number of members as possible is not just about match attendances, it's also about satisfying sponsors' expectations.

Great effort to get to this point at round 1!  supporters are coming out of woodwork.  50K should not be hard from here and once we get a few wins, who knows!
