We have a very long way back.

It didn't just advantage our supporter numbers.   It advantaged us,  in finding new talented players to sign on... at least before brown paper bags became fashionable.

Any suggestions on how I get my Crows wife and her family to convert to the Dees? If I had some spare cash I'd buy memberships in their names. It's the first thing I'll do if I ever win the lottery.

When I first saw the headlines, I was thinking what the...... Why would you set such ridiculous targets but I read the article and see where Perty is coming from.

He didn't actually say he was setting any targets. He is saying you could tell by the numbers at the finals that the supporters are out there to potentially reach those sort of numbers. Obviously the challenge is to convert them to members.

He is explaining he has already initiated a strategy of working with the MCC to communicate more aggressively with their MFC supporting members to convert them to MFC memberships. I believe there's over 10,000 of them.  I'm one of them but have been an MFC member for over 20 years continuously and over 30 on and off.  The problem is you are asking all of those people to basically donate the membership without getting anything of real value back. I do it to support the Club but it's a different challenge than converting supporters to members who are going to get access to games they wouldn't otherwise get access to. 

I believe there's also over 8000 lapsed members. Get those on board and the MCC and you're looking at 66,000 members. In one sense these are the low lying fruit compared to going out and converting non supporters to supporters then members. That's obviously the long term plan. 

It was only when PJ arrived that we were dreaming of reaching 40,000. 50,000 seemed a long way away. Hopefully we hit it this year. If we get 50,000+ it shows these strategies are staring to wok. If they really bit and we got 55,000 this year it would be basically double the biggest annual increase we've ever had.  

You can see why Perty got appointed. There's no one more experienced or successful at converting supporters to members. He basically doubled the membership in his time at the Pies by doing this. We are in good hands.

Fourteen of my Family members are all membership holders at Melbourne hardly miss a game at home. Where still growing the dynasty.

 I believe with the help of a strong performance early in the season   we can reach 50,000 plus members . 

The membership will rise significantly and reach the target when we have the ultimate success.

I am not convinced on that. People who take out three-game memberships may face the tyranny of distance making more than three games or they may be merely new members which is what we want. If we play the way we all expect this year, they won’t be content just watching three matches and will come on board fully next year. Total Membership numbers are no less critical as classes of membership.  Great for the players seeing 70,000 Demon scarf wearing fans packing the stands and supporting them in their Final Series!

I Iike the gist but I'm hoping that there is a strategy behind this besides just winning games (though that of course is the most important thing).

I have always agreed with @Sir Why You Little that we need to look at new arrivals to Melbourne. Sadly, we have squeezed the stone dry with our old school supporters (many are starting to leave this world). Many of their kids and grandkids are a lost cause who jumped onto Hawthorn, Carlton or Richmond (the former two during the 70's through the  80's and the latter recently).

Go through the CBD and inner suburbs today and you will find it's pretty bloody different to the 70's or even 90's. This diversity (which will spread out to the outer burbs as these demographics start to have families) is what we need to be aiming at. PJ himself said during his Demonland podcast interview that he was buoyed by the multiple nationalities amongst our supporters during our two finals at the G.

I rejoined again and also paid for twin Grand Sons this week so another 3 to the total. Great they play twice up here in Qld.

How many members do we need to avoid playing Geelong at their home. We then would get the same advantage as Collingwood.

the actual bias let alone the systemic bias in favour of the large clubs is incredible as we all know.

Disband GWS and GCS... transfer them to Tassie as a combined team perhaps. Drop to a 16 round season alternating home and away each year.

Geelong plays in Geelong... end of story.

Start the season a month later giving AFLW some clear air and move AFLX to VFL level.

Perhaps a wild card play off on the week off between home and way and finals.

Strangely enough I think attendances in total would not alter too much and the TV stations would bid the same money.

Put the players change rooms in the southern stand...so all rank & file supporters and members, even Mcc members will be welcome and able to visit the team.

 

All Kids are equal_   as are Adults.   SO... lets show that. or does the club stand for segregation.

I acknowledge the whole 'tyrany of distance' palava, however my point was that it would be better to maximise memberships that bring in greater money.  Its simple maths. Of course no one is going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Some other clubs sell loads of pet memberships too.

If most of our members were full memberships and our premium memberships were sold out in the process, we would no longer be a smaller club. I know a guy that was on a wait list for Collingwood premium membership because they had sold out. Now wouldn't that be a good position to be in?

you can even dream of the Crows where there are waiting lists for reserved seats during the home and away season.

Not many three game memberships for them.Their revenue stream must be enormous. On the other hand as I understand it the licence is owned by the SANFL so I suspect a fair bit of their profit goes to keep up that competition.

Hawks and North have Tasmanian focused membership packages, why don’t we have one for the NT?

Why, if you buy a package that only gets you into one home game does it have to be at the MCG and not Alice Springs or Darwin?

Sure the numbers won’t be large but every member counts and the club is neglecting an opportunity in the NT.

I was a member but unfortunately I have fallen on hard times. A membership is like a luxury item at present.
