I'm partial to a jaffle myself.

I can't see a menu on the website. I wonder how gourmet they go. I'm happy with cheese & tomato perhaps some baked beans thrown in. Occasionally some left over bolognese if I'm feeling adventurous.

I heard him talking about this last year I think on SEN. He mentioned a few different types that they were starting off with. From memory the ingredients sounded pretty standard and i don't think he mentioned more than about 4 or 5 different types of jaffles.

Nothing like taking the roof of your mouth off with volcanic hot baked beans in a jaffle in the middle of winter.

He might be onto a winner here.

When your main competition is Warwick Capper, it won't be hard to come across as intelligent, professional or likeable.

Baked beans, chilli con carne-style, with chopped habanero chillies, shaved Parmesan, avocado cubes and lime juice with thick wholemeal/grain bread, hand-sliced from the loaf! Hotter than hell. A couple of cans of Carlton never tasted so good.

The next day....

BANG!!!

I had a Jaffle from Maxys  van today at the Commercial hotel beer garden in Yarraville.

Max wasn’t there, but it’s being run in partnership with his younger brother.

i had a pastrami cheese and pickle one, and it tasted good. Basically a toasted sandwich. Took over half an hour to make though , so thought it was a very long wait, but I guess teething problems are to be expected in a brand new venture.

I reckon you’ll find Max is more figurehead than hands on in this venture, but making the odd “celebrity” appearance. It appears to be a Gawn Brothers venture underwritten by Max.

So DZ how much did they charge? Good value for money?

What else was on the menu?

They charged about 8 bucks and other flavors they had were ham off the bone, baked beans, kewpie and sweet with apple and cinnamon.

Younger and shorter?

So the service is great, expect that they keep giving first bite to the midfielders.

Boom-tish.

(Is everyone glad I'm back from holidays?)

Anything hotter?  I reckon the jam from a microwaved donut would go close SWYL!

Worked in an office with a bloke who would guts 80% of any morning tea provided.  Left a plate of microwaved jam donuts out on the kitchen table.  Taught the bustard a valuable albeit, painful lesson.

On the topic of jaffles, I love 'em with just about anything but particularly cooked over an open camp fire.

We had a cleaner, a big French guy, he would come in and eat all the cream biscuits in the tea room. One day I left one cream biscuit on the table, cream removed and filled with wasabi. He swallowed it whole and soon turned green, he never stole another biscuit.

Edit- In the 60's the Herbert Adams pies served at the footy were like molten lava inside and if it dripped between your fingers it would burn like hell.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
