Me too.

I think it will cost us in the long run.

Aside from Gawn, our complete starting midfield has been in rehab this pre season. How in anyone’s language is that a good preparation for the long season ahead?

Calm, exactly why it is happening this way, all too valuable a commodity to not take it nice and steady, especially Viney and his last 2 years

Oliver was doing everything today

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but does anyone know if there is a session on Wednesday this week? If so, where and what time? Thanks in advance.

Lever to return around 8 or 10 is a bit of a shock. I was going to say Round 1 looks less likely but i would've assumed he'd get in by round 5.

It's a valid concern but the break down is:
Gus - was healthy to start and is back in the main group
Oliver - has been running pretty much all summer
Harmes - as above plus back in the main group
Viney - doing more than last year
Vanders - doing more than last year
Petracca - apparently fitter than ever
Fritsch and KK both doing well as wing options
Jones - not missing sessions just backed off
Stretch/Baker - both progressing
Maynard - a depth option
Sparrow - potentially an option

To start last season we had Tyson out of the side, Brayshaw out of the side, Viney and Vanders injured and Harmes playing wing/forward. The midfield had huge changes between round 1 and finals.

Oliver is the only who's really behind where they entered last year and there's time for him to catch up. Otherwise we just have to make sure we use the long year to our advantage by resting and rotating guys and building them up through the season.

I think the days are gone when players train within the main group when they have an injury or niggle. I’d suggest any pain is reported to training staff and the players training regime is altered accordingly. I’m not worried at all.

Jesus why don’t you just ask them?!

At least he's starting with 2 good shoulders this season.

I thought his ball handling wasn't as good last season & some tackles slipped...that's coming from an extremely high base by the way.

Not surprising with what he carried.

I wonder when the injuries kicked in?

Crossy is a pro. Rd 8-10 is a number plucked from thin air - if he returns by rd 5 it means they're geniuses. if he says rd 1 but it blows out to round 6 - obviously theres issues..... it's a blatant under promise and over deliver stand point

Nice pics Saty. All just on the iPhone?

Nah, I wouldn't take an Iphone as a gift, just a little Kodak digital in Sport Mode

Clarry will be fine, not a fan of rehab like Jonesy, but knows the work has to be done

Think the 'major' op guys, apart from Lever, are aiming to be back with main group eithet in Qld or week after, still gives them over a month

No,No...  be conservative with the kid.   This is his 2nd Reco on the same knee. within what 3 years or so.

Lets not rush him back, like Schwarta did, back in the 90's.

I went along today. Lovely day and a good session to see as they were starting a bit of game simulation and there was plenty going on.

Just a couple of points to offer from limited viewing.

One is that last year I thought we had the list in pretty good shape so I was surprised at how much we cut into the list. I thought we might just do the obligatory 3 or 4 changes but we did a lot more and it shows on the park. The newbies are all small to medium players apart of course from May and Preust and they are as keen as to make an impression. It looks to have regenerated the group a bit and with Oliver, Gus, Viney and Jones on the sidelines there was a freshness that I think is good for us. We looked young and hungry and I'm pretty sure the coaches are creating an atmosphere where positions are up for grabs and anything is possible. So I also saw the contested mark of KK and he also did another nice piece of play at half back from contested to delivery upfield that was impressive. I also saw Nietsche (No. 27 the philosopher) do a couple of nice things. Bedford is busy and was involved a lot as well. The intensity was good and I think the youngsters contributed a lot to that.

The second thing I noticed was Vanders. He looked fantastic. He was in rehab with Gus and Stretch and clearly they are close to returning to the main group as they were doing contested stuff one on one and there were no holds barred. All three were going well, Billy is tracking very well but Vanders was excellent. They were one on one just holding and jostling until the attacker made a lead and one of the coaches Rooke kicked to the lead. Vanders marked most everything under good pressure and defensively was strong and aggressive and shut down his opponent. At one stage he spoiled Gus and took him to ground, it was strong play. He is clearly a leader and looks very focused, driven and I'd say as fit as he's ever been. I'm so glad he stayed with us and I reckon he could be a great player for us this year.

Just on the rehab group or groups, in making your way back to the main group you work very hard, harder than if you are in the main group itself. So even though most of the players in re-hab could easily join in the pace of the main group it is never gifted and you have to tick every box before they will let you back. Finally one of those guys Jack Viney is looking fantastic as well. He was charging around the boundary and while he would hardly blow out a candle Baker was totally gassed. Jack is another right on track for a massive year.

They’ve just broken into groups and doing right passing drills. About every 90 seconds to 3 minutes the whistle blows and they swap bins from defending to attacking.

Now back into full field ball movement. I’m guessing transferring what they did in the smaller groups.

Preuss has a huge kick.

Hate to say it but there’s a hell of a lot of kicks not hitting targets.

Sparrow has the gate of a natural athlete. Body language is very confident. Leads really well to good places.

Marty Hore solid unit. There’s going to be some solid contested marking capacity in this squad.

Bedford’s doing some nice work. Getting to the right places to receive and making good decisions and delivering accurately.

Petty still looks pretty light for a potential KP player.

They’re doing a contested ground ball exercise where a ball is rolled to 2 players who have to fight for it. McCartney told someone to tackle harder. They want it to be full match day intensity.

Garlett’s skills still stand out and he seems pretty engaged. He’d be a real bonus if he comes good this year. The competition for his spot is building

Jordan is also a good ready to go size.

Another group doing a drill where they are tackled under pressure and have to get an accurate ball off to an outside player who has to snap across the body at goal. All the handballs go off and all the snaps I saw went through.

Another group doing a drill where you stand with your back to a group are handballed a ball and have to turn and pick out from a series of players leading and get a low pass to them. Wagner started. Didn’t miss a pass. Seems to be doing some training with the forwards.

The backs are in a group at the moment doing a clearing exercise. They were all brought in and there’s extensive coaching going on by Troy Chaplin.  Then back into a drill in groups leading and passing. The philosopher is training with the backs. Hore’s Skills are good

Thanks for the great reports It's Time.

Love that from Maca.

I certainly hope Jeffy Garlett can get back to his best and force his way back into the side, because at his best he is just so damaging.  But to be picky with your choice of words, I'd suggest that both fortunately and unfortunately, it's not his position in the side that the competition is for these days.  He relinquished his hold on the spot to a certain extent last year and sadly appeared to be on the outer by the end of the season.  Hopefully the break has done him good and he's ready to attack the season ahead and make a big impact for us.  Would love to see him win his way back into the side - a 40+ goal small forward would be highly valuable for us.

The mind plays tricks during pre-season with a fear that every photo might show a player a moment away from a season-ending complaint. So, can someone please set my mind at rest and confirm that the five black stripes just above ANBs knee are a shadow of his thumb and fingers and not some form of fancy taping to control some sort of career-threatening injury? Anyone?

My 3 year old has just started singing 1, 2 buckle my shoe. 3,4 knock at the door...

All I can think of when he does that is the Freddy song, which i then sing out loud and freak my wife out as she hates the nightmare on elm st movies.

If CP has a run of poor form this year, will we see a potential headline in the paper reading "Fat Tracc Bullied"?

The challenge for Jeffy and others is consistency.

Successful teams have players that play with high intensity and consistency over the entire season.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
