I’m hoping in years to come, Spargo develops like a Sam Mitchell.  He is similar in a lot of ways (footy brain, great awareness, quick with hand and foot, unbelievable vision, same limitations).  He just needs to build up his strength and endurance over the next 3 or 4 years and he could be a champion inside mid.

I agree he does have lots of similarities to Sam Mitchell - as he gets a bigger fitness base and spends more time in the midfield the similarity will become more striking I hope

He's a good user of the ball , great reader of the play, tough , disposes well and in the vast majority of times to his team mates advantage

Sam Mitchell is not tall , he is not quick by foot - still a great midfield weapon

I expect Charlie to follow suit and I believe our coaching staff think the same

BTW, I think this is a great thread and full credit to @WERRIDEE for going so early on his team makeup.  In the current MFC environment he has more balls than I do to be making such predictions so far out.

Again what a contrast to last seasons corresponding thread when all the talk was about how we would curtail all of Dangerfield, Selwood, Ablett - elimination final.

I know coaches always play down Rd 1, but how good would it be to put the runs on the board early next season and set up or year, instead of playing catch up and on the edge for most of the year.

Yeah well Ill go one better and predict our Premiership all stars team for 2019

thats actually a great looking team. Just need to swap Garlett with Spargo. Spargo provides excellent forward pressure, and has a cool head in congestion

Mitchell 180cm
Spargo 172cm

That's a fairly large difference. He could rotate on ball, but he's always going to giving away 5-10kg when it comes to crashing and bashing as well as substantial reach.

Last season, Goodwin sprung a few surprises in early rounds with Maynard, Smith, Fritta and Wagner. Sure this season will be no different...

I think we'll see Wagner no.2 at least until Melksham is fit.

I actually, similarly like Pickett’s team and the Garlett vs Spargo question is a dilemma! When Garlett is on fire he is magic to watch, however looking at the emergencies it just reminds us of depth, without even utilising last year’s draft picks. If we have injuries, don’t be surprised to see either or both of Hore and Swallow running on the ground in September.

A Fox Sports article today talks about what each club should be excited about in 2019. This was our talking point.

MELBOURNE: Everything.

My favourite part is not stressing that Omac is on Dixon every time port goes forward.

Will Dixon play Round 1? I thought he was still recovering from the broken ankle.

BooHoo - I'll take any advantage we can get.

That's not very sporting of you, but I agree.

I guess the other thing is that if Wines is injured and doesn't play, it could save us the irritation of watching him play and thinking how much better it would have been for him to be playing alongside his best mate for the red and blue.

there is probably a thread about this but i cant find it - a little surprised Goodwin hasnt had his contract extended by now.

Now the tennis is finally over and we are starting to move into football mode I'm sure the good news will start to be released shortly.

Got to get the most mileage from these announcements.

I must admit being a fan of Ollie and still am a bit peaved we didn’t get him. Just pleased he isn’t playing against us.

Broken ankle or not, Dixon will still kill OMac.

I know your not the biggest OMac fan 56, I think he deserves a little more credit than some give him. From memory, he was our only tall defender in the team against Port last year and kept Dixon to 1.1 and played 100% of that game.

That was last year of course, with 6-6-6 it could change the set-up down back, but I’d still back OMac ahead of Frost.

TBH I am struggling to justify a spot for Lewis - but can you drop a guy with his status, is he untouchable?

Yes, plenty on here particularly TGR have slated him from the day he came in.

We have got a lot out of him and won a good few games off his experience in 2017 and 18. He has helped greatly with player development and now he's depth which all would have been what was intended when we signed him for 3 years

My Round 1 side

B.   Jetta  May  Hibberd

HB. Hore Frost  Salem

C.  KK      Oliver  Harmes

HF. ANB   Tmac  Trac

F.   Spargo Weid  Melk/Hannan

R. Gawn, Viney  Brayshaw

I/C. AVB, Fritsch, Jones, Stretch

The value and independence of opinion is always welcome; it encourages a depth of thought that includes multi-faceted analysis and evaluation. It also provides information on trending and insights into those elements that are casually overlooked on occasion. Thanks for your opinion, Dee Z. Without discussion there is no change. Without change, there is nothing to discuss.

Having witnessed a few - there really is nothing to life without another. A flag, with a series of successful years to begin and to follow can do much to make life worth its persistent demands.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
