Has Jack Viney done much with the main group? Hopefully he can play a JLT.

I think I heard Melksham joined the main group which is positive.

23 days to go!

26 Days until the Demons take the field for Round 1. 23 days until the Extended Bench team is picked for Round 1.

I don't believe that he has trained with the main group this preseason.

So i guess he has had no interruptions to his interrupted preseason.

Looks like all of Jones, Viney, May and Melk are good

Kolo Good for round 1 (probably VFL)

Lever Going great guns

Hannan seems terrible "Hopefully see him before the bye" ?

Nietschke done for the year obviously

Great result to have those guys back in full training with still 3 and half weeks until round 1!

Get KK right for the season.

Shame about Hannan but if he can get his knee 100% for the back end of the season he'll be cherry ripe come finals. He was playing through the injury in the finals last year so I reckon he can get to another level when fit.

That Kolo injury sounds nasty. Playing in round 1 at any level seems ambitious.

Hannan - not good, but I’m of the belief he’s been inconsistent since he’s joined up and played a lot of games bandaged up. It’s preseason so I’ll take the optimistic view that getting him fully healthy will be good for him.

Hannan could be a handy addition, much like AVB, in the second half of the season.  If you watch the highlights of the last 4-5 games of the season, which includes the finals, he was a key contributor in either scoring goals or being in a position to assist them.  With our depth I'd say he gets plenty of time to get himself right and put himself in the frame to make an impact come July or August.

Is it just me or has Hannan being out for half a season just come out of nowhere?

Fingers crossed they get this round of rehab right and he comes back fit. As with others above, I feel he has been consistently hampered with knee problems.

Just wondering what is the official latest on Lever? At the beginning of the thread mentions mid season, after surgical setback. I realize he is currently in the USA doing that rehab course, which has been very successful with others i believe...

Saw  post today that Jake comes home Sunday.

all went very well inUSA with Bill Knowles.

Aiming to be back in full training group in a month.

Round 8 is looking like return to Competitive play most likely VFL then AFL.

Good Luck Jake can't wait till you return.

I hope they don't do any rushin with Kade, after his osteitus tendon injury.   Let him ease the way back.

I don't mind if he misses the Rnd1 and Rnd2.   Just get him 100% first...  at his new club.

He is coming off injury issues and broken chains of games.   Lets not risk his long-term well being with us,  just for an early start in 2019.  It's not worth it.

Get him absolutely 100% right,  before he plays any senior games.

It feels like this preseason we've had way more guys starting slow and recovering from surgery, not to mention a few injuries thrown in. Anyone else concerned heading into the season? I've got a slightly uneasy feeling about it all. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid!

Addressing these issues (with surgery at various levels of depth) and more gentle and time-consuming training/readiness agendas in place, it is better for the whole team to have dealt with these requirements prior to the start of the season or, for example, midway through the season, or by largely overlooking or even ignoring latent problems in/with players where these could well fester, leaving a severely handicapped depth listing nearing the end of season - when we should be knocking off other finals aspirants without mercy or concern. Notice - ameliorate - fix - prepare - test - win responsibly.  A good footy mantra.

With all of the justified concern over player fitness and team depth this coming season, ain't it just going to be amazing and inspiring when they all hit the ground together for the first time, and line up on match day as a totally unbeatable team of great footballers with immense team pride and interactivity.

Why do you want him to play in the JLT? To get injured again?

The bad news:

  • Lever - another 3 to 4 months.  That suggests a return to the field just before or after the bye ie round 12, 14.  Hannah another 2 to 3 months.

Not so bad news:

  • KK - 3 to 4 weeks away.  Garlett avoids surgery but is 4 to 6 weeks.

Good news:

  • Jones, May, Melksham and Viney are cleared of previous injuries and all expected to play some form of football this week.

What they decided was as he was going to get one knee done, they may as well fix both up, hopefully to end his knee issues

Unfortunately the 'worse' knee had a bit of a hiccup and he had to have a small procedure post Xmas

Club believes in fixing the issues completely or hope to, no matter how long that takes

He has, like Vanders, been working his butt off in the gym, so core strength will be even better than ever

He starts his preseason on legs next week, hence the timeframe

Most of the others rehabbing were either small procedures or not leg related and were able to get the k's in

Hence Oliver's performance post an 'interrupted' pre season

so with Hannan being out for a while, and now Garletts injury, who would be next in line as a goal sneak/small fwd option for us? Bedford, Chandler, or heaven help us, C.Wagner or JKH?

also can we still use our last draft pick* to get a player like that, or has the window shut on that option?

edit- *spot on our list may have been a better term.

Spargo, ANB and Melk can all play the small forward roll

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
