STILL CUTTING HIS TEETH

Last year, Johnstone spent his time cutting his teeth at Casey as a small forward but this year he was tried in defence and showed some good signs at times. Missed the VFL Grand Final due to suspension.

I am amazed that Johnstone hasn't been officially delisted yet. I have seen nothing that suggests he can become a decent VFL footballer, let alone an AFL footballer.

I've said it previously, if he was not on our list, there is zero chance that we would recruit him now based on what we have seen over the past two years. So why bother keeping him around, even if his replacement is pick 245 in the rookie draft?

Johnstone's improvement has been agonisingly slow. Couldn't make it as a forward so they tried him down back with limited success.

After all the other movements, thought he might get another year, but not to be.

Best of luck to him. Good effort to make it this far, but must sting a little to never play at least 1 game.

Wow. We'll be looking at 10 or 11 gone when this is finished. That's a huge hole to fill. But, it indicates a club that won't take any backward steps in improving the list. From my POV, great to see.

As brilliant as Jason Taylor has been for us, he was bound to swing and miss on a draft pick eventually.

Pick 64s are always a bit hit and miss

(Cam Bruce was an exception for us, and Rohan Bail to a far lesser degree)

Nev was working with him trying to convert him into a defender, and I thought, given all the other delistings, he may have got one more year.  But who am I to say?  Got a lot further than the vast majority of us here

Presumably we have sufficient picks to fill the list.

Agree.  It’s 6 delisted and 1 retired I think, so we have 4 picks in the main draft and 5 I think in the rookie/preseason draft if we need them.  Bradke will come onto our rookie list as well.  The rest of the losses have requested trades or may request trades so I assume we will be expecting deals to involve players that have nominated us and are of the type we need.  I’m optimistic our list will be better in 2019.

Must be a big trade week ahead. Got a fair few list spots available now. Can't imagine we will bring in just kids to fill those spots. Preuss, Koladashnij and May must be a lock.

Good luck to Dion, hope I he finds his way back to the AFL system.

Nice kick on both sides, great tackler, likes the contest, but not enough natural football ability to get the ball - either back or forward. Maybe another preseason getting much fitter might've helped but some guys don't have big tanks either.

In general I'm a fan of being patient with draft picks - assuming there's no off field concerns or career ending injuries - because you don't want to miss out on what you bought a guy in to do, but I get that there's a baseline level of performance and improvement required.

I'd probably rate him #2 in my all time list of Johnstones at the club. A decent effort.

He's in front of Travis or Alan?

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
