Thought this one was going to get done 'early'?

Quote

Melbourne has also progressed in talks to secure Gold Coast rebounding defender Kade Kolodjashnij in a deal involving a future third-round pick.

That sounds about right to me. Still think it waits until the May deal, both clubs will want to work the little trade around the big trade.

Gold Coast must have academy kids they want the picks for next year.  Good result for both parties.

We make off like bandits

I just hope that Hoges stays with the Dee's. We need him. He's had a tough time the last 2 years.  Thing is, sometimes you have to stop and think what a person

Future 3rd round pick? Sounds like an absolute steal to me.

Does this mean we can't trade our future first round pick??

Doubt it, as the AFL have come out and said they won't be strongly enforcing future trading rules for a year or two yet, so long as it gets the tick of approval by what's his name (Ken Wood), then anything goes.

suntan terry was saying the other day you have to use one first rounder across the course of five years - no idea when the afl made the change or announced it

I'd imagine that one of the picks we got today (62 or 65) will probably be used.

They have 5 picks under 29 (2,3,19,24 & 29) and no academy kids coming through, so I'd think they'd prefer to bank some points for next year.

That's a fair call. Given the events of today I think this will get done first thing Monday.

Agree.  It will send a signal to Freo that we are ‘out’ of the bs deal and that there is no trade for May.

Horse?

The way Mahoney talked about this trade, it seemed to certainly be linked to a hypothetical Hoan trade.

Now that that has fallen through (and hopefully we won’t be returning their calls) I think this trade should go through fairly quickly.

Both teams seems to be dealing on good terms.

But Mahoney is no good in your eyes? How’s the hangover?

Need to get it done. KK will be a good addition

If you're sure that we're announcing the deal Monday, why post later that we 'need to get it done', as if it won't get done on Monday and there's a chance the deal may not go through at all?

Classic

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
