I'm 90% sure Cat B rookies don't count as players on your main 44 man squad

From what I can make of it, once you have a senior list the size of 38, there's a maximum number of rookies you can have, but nothing about minimum. Meaning no reason a squad of 38, 4 & 2 can't work.

Reckon freo trades 11 to eagles for 18 and another pick.

Wce trade 11 for Kelly.

freo trades Neale for 5

5 and 18 for hogan

5 for may and kk (hopefully)

That's a bit more sensible. Bring in May and KK and go to the draft with 18 (maybe one of the Xavier's Duursma or O'Halloran)

Isn't there a mid-year trade period this year 2019? Does that allow getting in more players somehow? against future picks or whatever?

I agree with the AFL website dudes. Just a ploy. More to play out yet.

The domino in this whole business is Lachie Neale. When that falls, everything else can get done.

cheers josh.

But we might as well keep Jesse, I think.   As he's not valued over if cockburn.

Jesse to halfback.

... good luck Freo you'll need it.

The party line.

If he was happy to stay he’d have inked a three year extension months ago.

He already has a contract he doesn’t need to sign another one early. I don’t think this in itself is proof he isn’t happy to stay or the FD isn’t happy for him to play next year

The only players desperate to sign contracts are the ones unsure about their value to their team or other teams - in short if you have currency it is likely in your best interest to not sign early and bargain when your negotiating position is strongest

I don’t see much evidence of JH initiating this current situation but I do believe he is and will continue to be courted heavily by the idiots abroad - for JH that would be tempting from a $ perspective , flattering , somewhat attractive from a go home point of view and confusing all at the same time - it’s not his fault but at some point it would be in everyone’s interests that the circus moves on

This is all being piggie backed off the same rumours freo tried to spread around.  If he were damaged goods, freo wouldn’t have offered him a truck load of cash, and wouldn’t have offered picks 11 and 20 odd. This is a weird, amateur negotiation tactic and the media are totally misreading it. And it’s pretty annoying they run with this stuff with no basis for it.

and also happy to stay if a deal cannot be reached. You forgot that bit

The kid lost his Dad and had Testicular Cancer this year. He is allowed to weigh up options.

This whole scenario portrays the power of the media. They keep hounding until they get what they want - new Prime Minister - AFL coach losing contract, Hogan leaving MFC and on and on and bloody on!

Keeping Hogan would not be the end of the world. Who says he'll just leave at the end of 2019? So might Oliver, or Gawn or Petracca. No one knows - yet the media hypothesize. Mud-rakers and morons like Sam Maclure.

Replacing Hogan with May would strengthen our backline but would do nothing for the forwards. What if T Mac or Weideman sustains an injury? How would our forward line look then? And Hogan is 4 years younger than May!

At least the backline will see the return of Lever during next season.

At one stage this season commentators were speaking volumes of our 'twin towers' up forward - T Mac and Hogan - and what a huge advantage they gave us over most other teams. How has this changed of late?

To win matches you have to kick lots of goals - we did this very well most weeks. Why change a successful formula?

There is a lot more to this than people know which unfortunately I can’t say

there are some posters here who are making similar statements.  So either they have been duped or there is something....

Did Freo offer him a “truckload of cash”? This has become fact on this forum but may not be true at all.

We might have to consider that Freo saw something that spooked them during their due diligence process.

Perhaps the nonsensical 11 & future second rounder offer was purely a face saving gesture and they now have zero interest.

The more I think about Bell’s sloppily written statement the more I am inclined to think that’s what’s happened. They’re not bluffing, they’ve gone cold on him.

Love to know why.

Whatever it is, it is not catastrophic because they still offered something, and if it was catastrophic, MFC would have jumped at it.

The worst thing we can look forward to is Jesse Hogan lining up for us next year, so I'm not going to lose any sleep if we don't trade him out this year.

What I can't figure out is why I'm suddenly wondering where Hogan will fit in for us considering the sudden advancement of Weidemann, and the recruitment of Preuss.

I'm of the belief that we would be a better side with May at full back, than we would with Hogan at CHB.

Hoping I'm wrong.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well …

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
