No, Tom Morris said that the offer of 8 mil over 8 yrs was put forward by Hogan's camp. Freo were surprised as he supposedly only seemed "relatively keen" to move to Freo.

Freo didn’t make the 8 year offer. Jesse’s management did. Freo knocked it back.

Got a quote of where he said that?

From memory he either said two high first round draft picks or two top 10 picks..I couldn't be arsed looking it up but feel free to flick back a few pages and you might find it....

Is it is it just me? Has the trade week nonsense addled my brain?

Tom Morris says the deals off because of  the  duration of contract, so ‘Melbourne have to buckle’? What the hell? The duration of the contract between Jessie and Freo is a matter they have to resolve for themselves! Where do we get our journalists from these days?

So much crap on here, but the reality is that this is the situation. Win/Win for us.

Hmmmm not that simple.

Hogan staying doesn't guarantee us a Premiership next year & i seriously dont think we will win it even if we keep Hogan, plus get May.

The other downside is that we do no better next year & then he walks out which is inevitable, for less compensation than we can get now

Yes. This came from the Hogan camp...

”You want me...Pay up...”

If Melbourne "buckle first" I'll be furious. We are asking for a fair price for the best young forward in the game. If Fremantle don't have the nerve to follow 5hrough, they can go to hell. I'd be thrilled to keep him.

Funny, out of that I got the impressi9n that Hogan isn’t that keen to go, the Dees are more keen he does, so Freo don’t want to pay as much as they might have. Hence the insane contract Hogan is asking for.

Well that explains a bit

only if you swallow yet another story from sports media

may have some truth, may not. too hard to judge from here

Seriously, 5 & 11 for Jesse, 36 and 46 is pretty much a reverse of the trade we made to get him.

That's not taking into account the development our club has put in, including the year he wasn't even eligible to play for us.

We paid up those picks, which GWS used to draft kids that could go straight into the AFL the next season while we had to wait a whole year before he could even play.

WTF - on the Fox Footy Channel, Leigh Montagna just said Lachie Neale was worth 2 first round draft picks but a minute earlier, he said Jesse Hogan was worth one. Is he for real?

Can we just sign him on a 8 year contract so we can put this [censored] to bed once and for all?

Me thinks Tom Morris has become Freo's mouthpiece. The logic of the article is off.

'Jesse came to us and said he was relatively keen, but wanted $8mil over 8 years. I mean, it's not like he's a good player or we are poo, so how dare he?! Then Melbourne asked for 2 first rounders as well! Not like he's a good player or anything. Must be a trap! So we offered a first rounder and a second, and when they said no we rejected their trade (?) And now we are really angry if people question if we are bluffing, coz we are definitely not trading for him... but if Melbourne cave we will do a trade.'

Tom not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I've given up with draft theories, pick swapping, home sicknesses and the like.

This is exactly how the AFL want draft week to play out, so the public continues to talk about football instead of Cricket, Soccer, Basketball etc.

This all should have been completed within a week.

Its exactly what it is.Other sports finish up & let the players & supporters relax for a while but the AFL feel they need the constant spotlight. They did the same by demanding all state leagues etc finish before their GF.Seriously Trade Week should be 2-3 days maximum as most of the clubs know who they want & who they want out months ago.

heard him. he's an idiot......and i wish him and his pals would stop shouting and talk normal - lol

The length of contract should have no effect of the price paid in terms of picks.

Except if the length of the demanded contract scared them off then the picks aren't traded

Can we stop calling any journalist that has an opinion we disagree with a "Secret agent for XYZ club" or a "Melbourne hater". its just not true. These guys may be wrong, but there's no hidden agenda, take off the tin foil hats.

I've always been told any suitor that the length is not as important as money.

Length can't buy happiness.

Vulgar really.

In general I agree with you.  However it would be naive to assume that none of them have agendas.  Most of them are not real journalists who have a code of ethics.  They are ex-player and members of boys clubs.  Many of them probably suck up to individuals at clubs and that may influence their 'reporting'.  So if one of them has a clear history of bias, I don't think a tin foil hat is needed.  Personally I don't follow any of them. I barely recognise their names.

But it wouldn’t. Every year his name would still come up.

Spoken like a true lurking Fox Footy 'reporter'.

Seriously though, while I agree they may not be pushing a hidden agenda, it is entirely possible they are being fed by a particular club for a reason.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
