I'm a bit confused about all the wrist slashing.

Option One:  We trade Hogan to our advantage (as determined by the FD)

Option Two:  We keep Jesse who is an elite talent.

What's the problem?

This ^^

So much crap on here, but the reality is that this is the situation. Win/Win for us.

Yes but I believe it’s pronounced ‘Fi’ burns.

I agree. I've let it slide over the weekend when there was nothing happening and granted there still isn't anything happening but if you would like to continue talking biscuits then please take it to the general forum.

Fair enough too. Time to get back to the potential Jessie trade.

I am going to stick my neck out and say there won't be one. I'll probably have it cut off.

Agreed.

I'm left wondering just how much Jesse would still want a trade to the Dockers after they've handled the whole process thus far.

Bell has definitely painted a nice shitstain on himself and the FFC.

So still going to be ~10 list spots available, only one trade done, hope we don't go to the draft with those late picks for depth. Need to get a hurry along.

was wondering exactly the same thing

what we don't really know is how much he is influenced/controlled by his player manager

At this stage we're only hearing about KK and May, so still a lot of draft picks to be used regardless. It's going to be interesting to see how we do this, I'm thinking there's some delisted free agency action coming up.

The above, and -  if Jessie's not looking at a premiership (if he was then the least disruptive course would be to sign-on for longer with us) and instead a fresh start after a personally hellish few years, then the anonymity that comes with Queensland footy could hold the answer.

Both Brisbane and Gold Coast are well placed to provide potentially satisfying trades from the MFC's perspective.

On one hand you have Goodwin and Mahoney who stays tight lipped and gets deals done to get the players we chase. Or you get Ross the Boss and Bell do everything I can to make a [censored] out of myself. WA would have to be losing some shine.

It's true, this thread was breaking apart, and getting stale.

It's just because we need something to chew on! Even a few crumbs will do...

On this note, did anyone else read Jon Ralph's piece in the Sun? He seemed to be suggesting that Neale is worth more than Pick 5? I hope that sentiment is not shared by Freo.

(All this aside, it must be my sense of humour, but it's funny that we, as, I think, mostly adults, have to be told that if we're going to talk biscuits, we need to take it outside (this thread)).

I have no inside information but I guarantee you this is the number one thing holding up the trade.

Freo were low balling us on Jesse in the hope that they didn't have to get the Neale trade done to land Jesse.

Can I suggest, though,  that it still makes more sense than the NO TS NO BS thread ???

At least this one's not going around and around in circles.

I’ve never allowed myself the “pleasure” of venturing into the thread.

It says a lot wbout freo and their strategy when pick 5 isnt enough for Neale but pick 6 is too much for Hogan.

As much as May would have been nixe lets just keep hogan and move on

On SEN this morning Watson said that Freo don't want to make the same mistake they made with Bennell. Hmm interesting comment!!!!!!

On form, he's not worth a first round pick, let alone pick 5. He's not in the top 5 full backs in the league at present. He's been poor-average for the past 1-2 years. Most believe that's due to not wanting to be where he is now, but there's the chance he's just not capable of playing the way he did a few years ago.

If all we got for the best young key forward in a decade was an average full back and a token pick I'd be very disappointed.

Maybe he hates being there....

So why chase a guy for 4+ years, bring him to your facilities whilst he is contracted and offer him a multi million dollar deal? Freo are actually pathetic and if they are honestly leaking this stuff they are dragging Jesse's name through the mud, & for what to get him cheaply?

Unless something had changed between this time last week whilst he was over seas and Jesse has become a leader of the Hells Angels this is just absolute dribble.

Bell is a complete waste of space in this setting and is clearly so far out of his league, I want nothing more than for this to blow up in his face.

There loss, if they dont want to pay, then they dont get him.

This is almost like going into a Lambo store with $2000 and complaining that the tyres are not any good and that they should sell it for $2000. Complete time wasters, get out of the shop.

If  jessie does has some off field 'issues,' unlike benell, his on field form has not suffered. Which is where my interest begins and ends (with the proviso there would be some issues I would care about)

But I am very suspicious of the rumours.

I'm starting to think "trade week" should be stretched to beyond two weeks to two months for some clubs and reduced to one day for others all culminating on the same day.  That way we will get the same result but Freo will have a much bigger hotel bill to put in their soft cap. And Melbourne can turn up on the last day and pop through a few quick deals.

Perhaps Peter Bell is 'the real victim here'... having watched too many episodes of Suits and/or the movie Draft Day - doesn't understand that they're fictional.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
