I just don't understand this at all.

Now that freo have publicly backed away from the deal we should no longer deal with them on this issue. It is dead and buried. To turn around and trade Hogan to them on wednesday  for say 5 and 23 would be a disgrace. That is my feeling anyway. Deal with it next year and be better prepared or maybe he changes his tune and stays.

There's still a chance. Freo have the weekend to contemplate what they have thrown away. It may heat up again next week.

They have cut off their nose to spite their face. When they realise that this has left them with no nose, they will have to look around for a new nose. And we have one who wants to be glued to their face.

Any feeling of crawling back with tail between legs is all on them.

Does anyone feel Jesse is a genuine chance of going to a club outside of WA?

I personally can’t see him staying in Victoria unless at MFC but don’t think I can really see him going to NSW or QLD either...

Funny isn't it almost everyone wants the MFC to be tough in trade talks.

Well they have been it would seem and it would appear Freo blinked first.

As you say still some days to go.

Sunday lunch at Mr. Bells club might change things.

I think Melbourne will happily trade Jesse to West Coast in a year’s time. We will get proper compensation them. This was just about getting a fair deal. I think Jesse will be looked after and won’t begrudge the club a fair deal for losing him.

If you consider pick 18 or so from West Coast ‘fair compensation’ for Hogan then yes you will happily get your wish next season.

Look at what Tony Sheahan just Tweeted:

New Deal Tabled; @melbournefc Jesse Hogan traded to the @GoldCoastSUNS in exchange for the Suns’ Steven May & Kade Kolodjashnij.

@freodockers cuteness towards this trade may cost them dearly!

IF THIS IS TRUE (a big if) and if Melbourne/Hogan is a party to the idea then...

  1) So much for wanting to go 'home'

  2) So much for MFC not pushing/shopping Hogan

  3) So much for everthing will be fine in 2019 with Hogan remaining at MFC

I was torn down for suggesting 2 & 3 last night

Tie the Suns pick 19 or 24 to that it’s basically the same outcome with Hogan at the Suns instead of Dockers. Hogan must really like the beach and warmer climates or losing or both to agree.

OD ...you'd be most aware negotiating is a game , of sorts.

Problem is they let any idiot into this one !!

As it is a game, it's yet to run its course.  We'll know soon enough how the cards truly sit.

Welcome to AFL island....and Tradopoly.

Might shake a few things up.

Its normally about this time that the left field trades turn over Apple carts and make politics look sensible.

Get the feeling that the AFL might get involved with the amount of deals being stuck and players in limbo.

It is becoming a farce and a bad look for the AFL.

Trade fortnight is ALWAYS like this to varying degrees and they have never intervened before.

The AFL can’t dictate to clubs who they should and shouldn’t trade for. How ridiculous.

I don't actually find it hard to understand why the MFC would want to move Hogan along now (as opposed to one year's time), as disappointed as I am about him leaving in the first place. And I don't necessarily think it means that they have been shopping him from the start...

As it stands it seems he won't commit past 2019 and if the club are aware of that I still believe they're better off trading him now if they can get the right price - so that they can bring in May and plan for the future. By keeping Hogan for another year they probably lose the chance of bringing in May and risk having to trade with Freo in 2019 or WC who we can assume won't have draft picks within top 14ish.

I personally can't see Hogan agreeing to it but that's purely my opinion.

It would make a complete mockery of point 1, Gold Coast would have to be about the biggest travel from Perth that you could get in the AFL.

We will have to wait and see what actually transpires, but if Tony Sheanan is the guy I'm thinking of (bit of an AFL recruiting guru?), then I think this suposed trade offer has more credibility as a rumor than some of the other muppet jurnos.

I’d be all for this.

We need to get Hogan off the books and out of the club. I agree with ProDee, the player has totally lost me and we’re better off doing a deal somewhere else and cutting our losses.

Hogan doesn’t want to stay at Melbourne whereas a guy like Steven May is dead keen. Get players into your club who buy in and want to be there.

Hogan clearly doesn’t want to be a part of our successful premiership era. No worries ... Adios muchacho!

It’s going to be interesting for Hogan next season and how he performs as he clearly doesn’t want to stay.

And we as supporters also know he isn’t committed to a the MFC.

Mite going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

someone suggested earlier that Hogan had been told he'd be training with the backs for 2019 and as such he wanted to look at other options. But Im surprised if the "go home" factor is totally absent and that he would be remotely open to going to the suns. Hard to believe that report.

Are you thinking he's with us in 19 ? I'm not so sure.

Anyone seriously think he would go to Gold Coast? I thought it was family or bust for him, and GC is not only worse than Freo but further away from his family. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I guess that's been the theme throughout this entire saga.

I wonder whether things change, and he thought he could get home easily and it would all be good. Now it hasn't worked like that, perhaps he realises what a mess it will be playing with us.

Still, imagine playing with GC next year. Yuk.

Hogan isn't exactly a culture builder.

Wonder if the payment Sheahan received from the Dees for this quote will be included in our soft cap?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
