Pretty sure it all hangs on the Lachie Neale deal. Holding everything up.

Hogan won’t declare he is leaving in case the deal falls through and he ends up at Melbourne for another year.

No one really declaring anything are they. ....and yet they are.

Fun and games...all part of the show

I'm pretty sure this is close to the truth. I doubt we will publicly hear anything in regards to Hogan's intentions until a deal is struck for Neale and perhaps even until something is official between Melbourne and Freo.

This has derailed our attempt to get Steve May.

Club are extremely frustrated with Jesse - they have gone ahead to negotiate with Freo.

Seems as though for the first time in a while we are going to be involved in the deal that holds up the whole workings of others.

Are you suggesting Hogan can't make a decision as to whether he stays or accepts the offer from Fremantle ?

Why would they go ahead and negotiate with Fremantle if they don't even know what his preference / willingness to leave is?

That makes no sense to me - I think its far more likely that Fremantle and MFC  are bickering on what picks they receive for Hogan /Neale etc.

This is like most trade periods where there is so much talk and speculation with precious little happening until the 11th hour when everyone has to either [censored] or get off the pot

Agreed but I don't think we'll hear anything about Jesse prior to a deal in case the deal falls over. A bit of face saving for all involved.

Dammit @Demonland - you’re the official poster of official press releases and every time I see you have posted on this thread - I get excited, only to be let down (just like Dom Tyson’s kicking skills...)

The longer it drags on the less face there is to save I suspect which is unfortunate

Personally I was looking forward to him sticking around and hoping the FD would experiment with him at CHB assuming TMac and the Weed are up and about

I don't think it has anything to do with Hogan at this point. Freo and the MFC are running the game at present.

Correct OldDee.

Anyone fretting over Hogan not yet nominating Freo or “making a decision” need to understand that no such announcement will be made until the two clubs agree on a deal.

There is still a small outside chance he stays in red and blue. He’s contracted. It’s really out of his hands at this point.

I reckon we’re going to push for Freo’s pick 5 and 2019 first rounder while they will be pushing pick 5 & 14 this year. Let’s see who blinks first. There is a heap of pressure on them now to get this deal over the line. Missing out on Jesse would be calamitous for them.

Just wait it out Dees.

Yep then Jesse can say

"I was always happy to stay at Melbourne, I love the city and the Club for standing by me during some difficult times" or

"its been a difficult few years for me and coming back home with the chance of a new start can only be a good thing"

If the only reason we are considering a trade for Hogan is to secure May I think there is a real limit to how long each side  can wait it out for

No we can’t think like that. You have to be prepared to walk away from the table and say “no problem Jesse plays FF for us next year” ... “we think we can win the flag with him.”

“Pay the price or miss out. The Eagles have already made enquiries for next year.”

”May yeah we’re keen on him but not the end of the world if we miss there.”

No limit on us. But the clock is definitely on them. Tick, tock, tick, tock.

Melbourne have asked Hogan to either leave now or re-sign with us for a longer period.

His manager is telling him to hold out for a better deal next year.

Hogan is torn.

They've got nothing else to offer us otherwise, going to be a long week for all Demon heads.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
