I would. Especially if I was Ross Lyon and staring down another season with Taberner, McCarthy and whichever other no-name hack he’s been running with in that forward line the past few seasons. They are under serious threat of a bottom four finish Freo, which would likely cost the coach his job. They are DESPERATE.

Nowhere have I ever stated that Hogan is no good. He’s a talented young key forward with potential, however he does have his flaws. People on here talk like he’s guaranteed to be a multiple All-Australian , multiple Coleman Medal winning champion of the sport in years to come. He is being talked about like he’s the next Buddy Franklin. It’s bulltish. Living in Dee-nial land.

At 23yo Buddy was winning a flag, kicking a ton and routinely wheeling away from 60m out and thumping sausage rolls through at post height.

Jesse Hogan has achieved nothing in footy yet except winning a Rising Star award and showing plenty of promise, as well as exhibited some worrying defects. A clear eyed view show  that’s all he’s done.

Freo will pay up the extra top tenner for him  because they have no bloody choice.

You're like ProDee, but only cooler because you have Bruce Lee as your profile pic.

Edit* - I have similar thoughts on Jesse and his output to date.

So if Hogan had a medical then one would presume he is going but then again maybe mrs fremantle might be unhappy with mr hogans foot.

i wouldn't presume that just because of a medical when he has a known foot injury, a history of back problems and wonky knees

does mean he's willing to listen to an offer, but we knew that

Yes that is true but I am convinced there is something going on we don't know about. Maybe it is a physical thing and we are happy for him to go. Don't know.

What was your older username on here? It’s on the tip of my tongue.

Range Rover or E25? Or were they the same person?

I've never understood why people create multiple accounts.

A bit weird.

Because they get banned.

I liked RR, E25 and Stuie, but I find myself at odds with him/them on this particular occasion.

Hogan hasn't matched Buddy's output yet, but he's only 23 and has much better output to date than many superstar forwards of the past. And as we all know, talls take much longer to hit their straps.

I'd back Jesse to win a Coleman one day (at the very least), but at the same time, we have more pressing needs than one gun forward. With our defence being a pressing need, we have Tommy Mac who has stepped into the elite category and a developing Weideman. If we want to win a flag next year or the year after, IMO, we have to bite the bullet and fix our defence as a matter of priority over keeping Hogan.

If Jesse wanted to stay, then we'd find another way of getting May, but as this opportunity has presented itself via Jesse's refusal to properly extend his contract, I'm happy to get the maximum compensation out of him - which we will get and even Drags agrees on this point.

I don't think we have to look for mysterious ailments/attitudes.  Surely the proposition that we want a long term commitment for stability knowing he might leave at the end of next year, and we can get more for him now than then, and possible plug immediate holes elsewhere in the team, is sufficient explanation of why all this is happening and driven by MFC.

Of course that’s the public line.

That's not the public line, the club has said very little, but oblivious from your statement you know more than everyone.

Agree, the FD will have projected the salary cap forward and figured out we'll lose a gun like GWS have.

They see we have a surplus of KPF and an opportunity to proactively trade now with a club who has currency and is a suitable destination for our player.

We're staying ahead of the curve.

Mahoney did say “we’d want the highest ever value in trade for Hogan” or words to that effect, did he not?

That’s actually saying quite a lot. Read between the lines and you’ll see a whole game of one upmanship being played out here before the two clubs even shake hands over the trade table.

A couple of years ago Roos said noone has ever done what Jessie did in winning the rising star the way he did, and then Mahoney says this. Very Trump like in their language, love it.

That's Mahoney posturing to get value in the trade, not the reason behind the trade. As in "Hogan wants to go home or Melb giving him a push because he won't sign another contract"

A guy on SEN, just said he spoke to Hogan’s best mate over in Perth and he told him Jesse is definitely coming home and it’s just a matter of this year or next.

Take it for what it’s worth.

It seems quite worthwhile, as clearly the Dees are operating under that belief.

Probably stating the obvious here but if we can't get his long term commitment now then I'd be more than happy to trade him, granted we get a nice return package.

No need for a Hogan-WA fiasco throughout the entire 2019

This seems to be the general consensus now between Melbourne supporters.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
