I’ve got a gut feel he will stay and sign on for another two years.

Try and get a premiership with the lads, then maybe head home after that.

I hope!

What do you mean ‘compare Hogan to Vanders?’

One cannot go to the airport without a journalistic escort and the other isn’t recognised by Dees fans.

There is no comparison to how they have handled their completely different circumstances.

I was comparing circumstances over the last two years (tragic loss of father, extended injury, away from family) and the respective resilience and grit shown.  The comparison was in the context of question marks on Jesse (raised by many in this thread) possibly causing Freo to put a lower value on him than Neale.  My post had nothing to do with media shenanigans at airports or anywhere else!  As an aside, Mfc have kept Jesse out of the media for the last two years and rightly so.

Jesse just posted on his Instagram page that’s it’s good to be back “home” in Melbourne to this nice weather.

Could be something in that hopefully. Lachie Neale did refer to Freo as ‘ they’ last night prior to his trade request when asked if the Dockers could make finals next year.

All due respect but I would trust Alistair Clarkson as a judge of footballing talent over you Pineapple.

Triple premiership wingman, B&F at Freo in his first season. Yeah he’s rubbish.

'Clarko' is playing a different game style to ours, so personnel change.

Yeah, well, exactly. If I'm Jesse, I'm more likely to want to stay at Melbourne, even if it is for $400-500k less pa. The Gaff likely re-signing adds further intrigue - does Jesse follow suit?

1-200 maybe, 4-5 is way too much to overlook.

I think if he is after a big payday it has to be this year. If he stays at Melbourne we still have to fit everyone in and if he fails again against stronger opposition then it will/should affect his asking price. If he goes now there’s still some buying into the “potential” line.

I don’t think the club are keen on Hogan only extending for another two years, it’s either sign long term or explore your options elsewhere.

Are you sure it was Jesse's actual account?  His last post was 9 weeks ago https://www.instagram.com/jessebhogan/

BTW - has anyone who follows him seen '01' on his account in the past?

He did a medical at Freo on Thursday.  Unlikely to do that if he was coming back.  Mahoney said they expected to hear from Jesse through his manager again indicating that he was unlikely to be back in Melbourne at this time.

For all Brisbane have been a basket case in the past, they have been getting themselves together in the last year or two. Fagan's appointment was not sexy but it was a mature decision that shows the football community that they are professional organisation. Plus they have shown promise on field for a successful future.

Agree that it's a massive endorsement of Brisbane.

That must encourage the AFL re GC's dire position.  If they can get the admin and fundamentals right then Qld can be an attractive destination.

It shows that getting the fundamentals right is key to turning around FCs, not priority picks.  See MFC for example.

GC is really the AFLs only major problem and this shows it can be sorted.  Carlton are a temporary basket case which will eventually resolve.

You think the Pies will just walk away next year with Dunn and Goldsack probably retired?

I think Collingwood are heading into cap issue territory

I also believe a lot of it was Jesse considering the big money offer from Freo.

if the reports are correct , he is weighing up 1.1 mil a year at the Dockers vs his 850 k with the Dees.

We could probably up our offer to 950 if he decides to stay, and possible incentives if we make the Grand final.

He seems at home here, and once you are settled in a home with your girlfriend and dog, and a great supportive club like Melbourne on the cusp of a flag, why move to Fremantle, without Lachie Neale and a looney coach like Lyon?

There is no way in the world freo made there offer to hogan without knowing they would have to cough up two top end draft picks to get him.

They probably didn’t expect Lobb to be on the market as well

#5 &#6 for Jesse hogan or F off freo he’s contracted so pay up.

#6 grabs Steven may who fills a significant hole for us.

#5 is the really important one. I’m sure we are sniffing around for an established outside mid. Could we get in on the Polec chase at the last minute and offer #5 for Polec & #9 considering they were ready to accept #11 for him alone.

i also love bailey smith as a player and have no objection to going to the draft and bringing him in to further build our already handy talent pool.

Are Freo waiting on Lobb to land first &/or are they pressing us, for Preust ?

I want to go to the early draft for a player, with one of our 1st picks.

Cockburn

We've covered that, but in the interest of this thread reaching 200 pages before the trade period starts, worth another going over

I know, trying to fill the space to page 200 and the ‘moment of truth’...

the correct answer, if you were playing along at home, is “no matter how hard you try you end up with cockburn”.  Other entries still welcome!

I’m not too sure, you’d think hogan would be their priority and they will play hard ball to try and retain a top 10 pick to land both which is why the trade with port would appeal. If they could say get hogan for 6&9 and trade 10 for lobb

i hope and think they will still demand 5&6 hogan is probably the best young forward talent in the game and will be a superstar for a long time, I don’t think we should wriggle even a little on that asking price because not only is it fair, freo will buckle. They can’t afford not to sign hogan. They need something to convince members not to jump ship.

my Ideal outcome would be using those picks on Steven may and bailey smith

With SOS as list manager and the old boys club remaining, Carlton have a distinctly old MFC, living off past glories vibe about them. I reckon they're in trouble as a club.

Only a bit over 20 &1/2 hours til starters orders !!!

Freo remind me a little of Port pre Hinkley in terms of being a destination club. Only difference is a somewhat credible head coach but off field turnover with the List manager and head of football splitting doesn’t help. They are lucky there’s people who want to go home.

I wonder if our attitude would be similar to Steven may. If you wanna stay that’s fine but you have to sign on long term, if not let’s move you home now.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
