Got to the page, and then go to AFL. Then it works. It's a great write up. Roosy is one of ours.

it works but via their home page!  fantastic read.  It occurs to me that the fact that Roos comes from a background involving smaller clubs made him a perfect fit for us at the time.  Best of all he refers to Melbourne as "us" & "we".  He has come a long way too.

I'll try that again. When the page crashes pick the sports box, then afl. Then you'll see it and it works.

Best read of the last few weeks, and considering the press that’s saying something. First time I have felt we were as important to Roosy in his football journey as he was to Melbourne. Let’s hope there is a few more chapters to this story in 2018

Every time I watch the video of that kid getting the tickets I spring a leak!

Great Pride and Respect from Roos for Nathan:

"I’m going to buy a photo of Nathan Jones...You might know the one I’m referring to. It was taken immediately after his goal against Geelong in the last quarter two weeks ago. Fists clenched. Arms raised. Fire in his eyes.

I’m going to ask Nathan to sign it and then I’m going to hang it in the TV room at home. It’ll sit alongside my premiership photo with the Swans and my medals from Fitzroy

To see him now leading the team into the penultimate week of the season is incredible. It all seemed like an impossible dream a few years ago. Nathan’s goal against the Cats, Max Gawn’s celebration after the West Coast game, Neville Jetta crunching Joel Selwood … I don’t know quite how to put it all into words other than to say this group has finally wiped out the negativity around ‘old Melbourne’ and the myth about mental toughness".

Love that he is including other stalwarts: Jetta and Gawn.

Roos knows better than most about downtrodden clubs.  He hails from Fitzroy, South Melbourne/Swans and then Demons.  It is no coincidence that he resurrected the South Melbourne Bloods at Sydney:  Pride in clubs history, those that have fought the battles and joy of being at the top of the game once again.

Nice article from the guy who has to take huge amount of the credit for where we are.  Was great to see him on Fox Footy after the hawks win last week.  He was genuinely emotional about the win and the adulation of the fans nearby -- even if they were being a little whipped up by mad Eddie.  (Doubt Eddie will be in the same mood if we make it to the big dance and knock off his mob!  LOL)

great read, loved the vid of the kid getting the tickets, thats really what it is all about.PASSION

Great read from someone who will forever be a part of the Melbourne that rose from the ashes of a very dark chapter in our history.

Great man. I'm not teary, you're teary.

I'd be lying if I said that didn't make me tear up. Thanks Roosy, you're a huge part of the reason we're here today.

Roos has always come across as an unemotional type. That’s obviously wrong. It is both surprising and pleasing to see him so invested in the Club. His time with us was obviously much more than just a another job. Good on ya Roosey.

Great read. We all lived through those dark days, it is really a blessing that roosy came in and helped set up the blue print for what is the demons today.

What also struck a chord with me was this about Peter Jackson:  "I’d already said no to the Melbourne job a couple of times...At the time, Peter would’ve been with Melbourne for six months, tops...But I could already tell how much the club meant to him. You could hear it in his voice".

So many people have contributed to the 'New Melbourne' but the one who had the vision and made it happen is :pj:   I hope the club has a very fitting farewell for him in a few weeks.

Caro's article in The Age this morning puts into perspective where the club was when Jackson took over. It was beyond awful.

The hero is Andrew Demetriou but that will be a bit hard for some here.

Roos played a critical role but Demetriou started the ball rolling and with Jackson in place it never waivered.

High praise to all as we run onto Optus this afternoon.

I recorded the SF on Fox and the post match discussion panel, consisting of Roos, McGuire, Brereton and King, is surrounded by Melbourne fans who keep chanting Roosy’s name. I must have watched it twenty times over just to see Roosy’s reaction. The smile on his face is absolutely brilliant. He’s left in no doubt how much the fans love him for what he did for this great club. He’ll be cheering the boys on today just like the rest of us.

Hard not to get affected by that.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
