Puopollo bump, head high to Rioli.

Mr Christian - what excuse this time??

Not that it would have made a difference but why would the Hawks go in with two ruckmen on a night BOM predicted rain?

Because Clarkson is a coaching genius and cant be questioned.

I have to say it.  This is frightening.  Richmond are looking awesome.

Also, if we win tomorrow we get the Hawks on the rebound.  They've torn us apart every time we played them.  It may seem odd, but they are the team I least wanted to run into as we seem to have no answers to their game.

Richmond into 1.90 for the flag, we are now 11.

We can thrash them, if we win tomorrow

Lets concentrate on Geelong first.

agreed.

Interesting Mitchell up to 37 possessions but if Richmond kicked straighter it would have been a 60point thrashing. What was his impact tonight? Zilch really.

Mitchell may get a million disposals, but not many are damaging.

I would take Clarrie's half million over his any day.

Scary thing is Riewoldt didn't kick a goal tonight.

The hawks youngsters crumbled tonight. The tigs just applied the heat. Also if we do get through im fairly confident gawn could do the job on McEvoy.

Interesting to see Goodwin and McCartney there tonight. I guess they are doing there homework just in case we have to play hawthorn next week.

Neither Bruest nor Gunstan looked like 2018 All Australians tonight...

Geez if we got past Geelong and the Hawks dished out that game again then they would be out in straight sets.

If we get over geelong tmrw then we can put the hawks to the sword. Them and the filth are the worst top 4 teams I have ever seen.

How many times have we said that?  We come in with all the momentum, the Hawks playing like rubbish, and they take a scalpel to us and win by 50 points.  It's not a matter of them being rubbish or us playing well.  Their game style takes us apart every single time.  We just don't have any answers to their precision kicking game.

Yep, agreed. Let's not forget the only team in the top 8 Collingwood beat all season was us. Their buttery soft fixture gifted them a place in the top 4.

Hawks looked absolutely rubbish tonight, but Richmond have that ability to make most teams look rubbish at the G. They are scary good and won't have any issues making the GF regardless of who they play in the PF (one of West Coast, Collingwood, Sydney or GWS I think).

Regardless, we still have to win tomorrow and beating Geelong has not exactly been our speciality over the last decade. Going to take a huge effort from the players to overcome a team so brimming with finals experience.

Haven't had to date: but now we know what needs to be done.

Yes have to agree I am sick of seeing us smashed by the Dorks, what one win in the past 20 games. Mostly we haven’t been good enough but think back to the early 2000’s when they were near bottom and we were near the top and we would contrive somehow to get clobbered. Was it 2004 first round v Hawks and we just didn’t show up to play, get smashed then proceed to win the next 10 in a row. We have some mental block when it comes to them I am afraid.

Put away your glasses, Richmond for the flag, only question now is who makes the GF. Scary good, and the buy-in from the players is a thing to behold.

Need to get past Geelong before we start talking about the Hawks.

Im feeling more confident about MFC chances tomorrow after watching this game.  In the first half especially it was so tight and contested. No goals out over the back.  We are the No. 1 contested team so we should back ourselves in to step up in finals

Their precision kicking falls apart quickly under pressure. Richmond showed that tonight. Mitchell may get 40+, but if they are under pressure he is  very average and prone to turning them over. Plus they'll be without Stratton.

But we need to win vs Geelong first. Nothing else matters at this point.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
