Very good stuff today.

Players who impressed me today:

Harmes: Is he becoming the new Cameron Ling (with nearly as big a set of teeth as Lingy)?  His improved core strength is a real highlight for mine as the bloke just can't stay tackled.

Weid: Weid has passed a huge test for mine. Oscar was one of these players too. When he gets the pill, I now have absolute confidence the ball will not get coughed up or fumbled. Plus he is now providing the type of presence we need. He need not kick bags of goals as he isn't the first option forward right now. He needs to provide a contest, jag a few marks and kick one or two.

His play the last two weeks shows sadly the Bear will probably move on.

Frosty: There was always a place for Frost in our 22. It was a matter of him knowing what he can and couldn't do. He can play on big power forwards like Buddy, Cameron and Hawkins. He can run off his man and carry the ball out of defense. He can't kick with Salem or Lewis like precision.

If Frost keeps his head, then he stays in even when Lever's knee comes good.

Gus: And to think this bloke was slightly speculative come round 20 last year! Absolute silk, rarely wastes a possession. He and Choppers have been the difference from us being a solid team to being a finals team.

Good win. Block out the fugazi fellas. Geelong are a battle hardened team and the best test as to whether we are ready for a deep September campaign.

Just saw this headline on HS website:  Lewis email sets teammates straight. Seems to relate to 'celebrating too hard'.

Can anyone get around the paywall and give a bit more info. Thanks.

Lewis is a seasoned finals campaigner showing great leadership with that email.  Finals is what we recruited him for and he has played two of his best games for us, in the last few weeks.

Am rapt he is 'holding our hand' over the next month.   Keep the kids calm and focused ?

Lewis again was good early in the game before we settled. I dunno experience like that might be useful in a couple of weeks ;)

I really enjoyed being able to sit down watch the game and it didn't matter. Still yelled and carried on tho :)

Was watching with a mate of mine who is a Swans fan and when we went beast mode he just shook his head and said; "Irresistible football", three times.

Finals wins would be a bonus, but it's bloody nice to follow and watch a decent football team.

Carlton game aside I haven’t left a game this content for a long time.

Yes it was an open game but our defence and tackling pressure was immense.

Frosty, Salem, Pig, Oscar, Bailey, Nev take a bow.

Run, Frosty, run!

I must have screamed that about a dozen times today. It never got old. We need to make room for him when Lever returns, because he's in our best 22, no doubt.

This is true (Mum grew up in Geelong) but trust me, I 100% bleed the Red and Blue now. Also I hate the cats for that after the siren win, I was there and it sucked.

Interviewed me the rooms after the game, nothing in it just said he sent an email to the team after the game last week, before the media reports of over celebrating but was trying to remind everyone there was a game next week. Never mentioned himself over celebrating

This is the last time I will mention the term "mentally weak", I was calling that a few weeks ago, because the MFC and it's players aren't and i dips me lid for being shown that today. A fantastic team effort with no passengers. My highlights were Spargo, Weid and JKH, great kids with good upside. Wow thats another one i have too admit too, about the Weid, said he wouldn't show his talent until at that other club, it's great being proven wrong by our mob.

Go DEMONS bring "EM"all too  OUR HELL, sorry ppl it's been a long wait.

I think Lewy has seen this from afar as well.

I remember when Riv went to Geelong as a free agent and the first game he played for them against Hawthorn (during the Kennett curse years). The story was that while the Cats were happy, Riv nearly creamed his jeans on the ground so much so that Joel Selwood had to pull him aside  to tell him to calm down.

Jordie would have recognized this and thank goodness he was right on top of it.

LH - the article referred to an email he sent on Monday night after the Eagles game.  Jack Viney said it was a serious email and that he made the comment that we aren't in this business to make finals, we're in it to win them.  He just reminded the players how important this week is (which showed today) and how the right approach and preparation can set us up properly come finals time.

Anyway

Harmes is going OK yeah ....?

My pick for most improved at the start of the season and hasn’t let me down. To play a negating role and pick up 29 and a goal is exceptional.

In Goodwin's presser he said Dom was due for surgery about now (7pm) and Kent to be reassessed tomorrow, but that at this stage, it doesn't look as bad as they initially thought

Frosty the white walker was MOTM for me. Who taught Weids how to mark? give em a pay rise. Solid effort from everyone, Trac exploded in the 3rd but really needed composure at times.

In 10 years time we may have just witnessed a demon dynasty with Viney petracca oliver brayshaw and harmes in midfield.

I went to Fyans Park Primary back in the day.

The only thing I remember about that joint was that the school hobby was spitting at each other.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
