For all the fair criticism WCE and ESS get, time to start putting the heat on COLL. Definitely no angels.

no...not performance enhancing... like the Saad energy drink ... different rules

From The Age:

"The substance in question is understood to be an illicit drug, which is classified as performance enhancing on match day only. Had he recorded a positive test during the week, he would merely have a strike recorded against him under the AFL's illicit drugs code."

If it's in his system on match day it's considered a PED. To my mind, when he took it is a poor excuse. Was he tested on match day? If so, it should be 2 years.

But if you’re still over the limit on match day that doesn’t matter does it?

Is there even such a test to determine when its was taken? In terms of hours taken before a game?

It doesn’t matter- if it’s there, it’s there.  That’s the only test that matters.

Not really buying the ‘but it’s only banned on match day’ line (pardon the pun).  This drug is in fact banned 24/7, 365 and 1/4 days of the year.  Murray’s either an addict who cannot help himself and needs immediate intervention, or he is a complete and utter moron.

Probably both TPF39.

Thats how I've always viewed it TPF39, anything in the system that is tested on Game day, whether it be taken on a Thursday night but still detected on sat arvo is gone.

If it’s in your system on match day it doesn’t matter when you took it....

No wonder Gary Pert decided to leave them and come over to the light......

Wow I thought he was some VFL player... didnt realize he drug tested after an AFL match.

Did they win the game he played in?      If they won that game and Gillon McLachlan doesn't strip their 4 points by the end of the day,  he has to step down.

Was this after the Port Adelaide match? This could have HUGE ramifications on the 8!

Imagine if one of his teammates also had tested pos and WADA came down hard on Collingwood for 2 pos players! AFL kick them out of the finals like Essendrug was. Melbourne beat GWS on Sunday and finish top 4!

Justice is a surprising reward, at times. There is no alternative - if the AFL is appropriately sensitive to performance enhancement substances as we must all expect it to be. Number crunching and escalation aside....

it will be months before he is found guilty/cleared

long after the finals

afl can't act until due process is completed

Barrett on the AFL site says the match was ‘possibly’ the game against Richmond on July 28.

Clearly the club needs total disqualification, meaning that MFC, should they win on Sunday, would finish fourth ??

But seriously looking forward to McChinny spin on this.

Sam Murray tested positive after Collingwood v Richmond.

For this game and all games that he played in after that Collingwood should be stripped of those points, that is 4 wins so they should be stripped of 16 points taking them back to 40 points dropping them to 12th.

Seriously the AFL needs to put this action in place on the basis that this is ASADA testing, before we go down the Essendon path.

In his system on match day, Peter.  Nice try.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
