The Australian newspaper reports that Luke Dahlhaus, one of the bigger names on the free agency market, is in the sights of Cats.

Should we try to get him?

Posted (edited)

i'd have him, happily, as as a free agent i think he'd add immediate depth to our side

he'd get a game ahead of spargo, hannan, and possibly avb in our side

i reckon if we can teach melksham how to be a gun, we could do similar with dahlhaus, and with mccartney there he'd know what sort of a person he is and how he'd fit into our side

gaff should, absolutely, be the priority

Dahlhaus is a superior player than, Spargo, ANB, AVB, Hannan, JKH & Kent. He is also more of what we need than Tyson. To say he’s not Best 22 is just wrong.

I don't think he is every player except JKH who is useless has a different skill set to him. Can't see where he fits into the 22. Really lost form since their premiership.

At 26 should have a few years left. Bad ankle injury might have slowed him down this year.

Last year averaged 25 possessions and 4.5 tackles. That puts him in pretty good, almost elite company for a half forward. Wish Petracca could have these numbers!

Free agency he is worth a look at but not essential like Gaff or Whitfield, Hill etc.

I watched a few doggies games this year due to them getting some good free to air slots and Dahlhouse didn't look anything like he has been in years gone by.

Still a good player in his say but he could be on the decline.

Looks slower than a couple of years ago, less agility. Would like to speak with the Richmond doctor before any serious consideration for us

Had a down year but was a great player, especially in their premiership year.

At only 26 years old I'd be backing him in to get back to his best, plus a change of scenery may do him good.

My preference is 1) Gaff 2) Dahlhaus

Wrong comparison's, he hasn't been playing as close to goal as those you've mentioned. He did but in the last couple of years has been playing more wing/inside mid. He's only kicked 2 goals for the whole season (he played 17 games). While I do think he's an improvement on JHK playing the same role, he would also cost a lot more. His 2013 - 2016 form and he's a good in, the form over the last 2 years would mean he'd be a fringe player, handy for depth and hope he comes good again but we shouldn't pay a heap for him.

He grew up just out of Geelong - played for Leopold - may want to move back?

of course he is. Scott is king of the top ups.

Aren't we supposed to be starting these random recruitment threads when we are rubbish and no chance to make the finals?

My comparisons (no need for your apostrophe) weren’t based on playing close to goal, they were simply small/medium players that regularly make best 22.

Not sure if he'll regain that form either.

Has played 17 games this season and kicked 2 goals as a forward and only 5 goal assists. Hmm something's wrong.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
