Rest: Hogan

In: Weid or Bull, both been good at VFL level, don’t think Pedo has he’s been playing as a defender the last 4 weeks

Id want Keilty to play too but it ain’t gonna happen

hogan definitely needs a rest. and maybe petracca too, but less so?.. fingers crossed trac's shoulder is ok. next cabs off the rank should be tim smith to play petracca's role and i'd be happy with either sammy or pedo to replace hoges. i am pretty sure pedo won't have forgotten how to clunk those forward 50 marks ?

Likely no change

I like to seee the team settled but agree perhaps Hogan rested and may put JKH back to Casey.

Vanders might need at least another week at Casey to build up fitness so JKH may still in.

We need to manage a few if we're to have a decent crack at September.

Rest Hogan....or he's cooked. A no brainer really.

Personally I'd like to see Pedo in for Smith. Can at least understands the game.  Now is not about games into NOOBS...it's about assembling a finals team. Let's not cut off nose as they say.

I still think JKH is not up to it..

Some might suggest no change but I think it's imperative to give some a rest and tweak what is an imperfect line up.

If we're to do this...well... let's get serious mum ;)

He'll be fine

Which player doesn't have a niggle or two this time of the year?

He gets (several) best defenders jump all over him, week in and week out and our current style of play relies on a big forward

Ice and Vaporub all week for Jesse, methinks.....

That'll fix his marking ?? ?

Petracca shoulder?

I think he just copped a stinger.. played out the game pretty well afterwards.

I would like to see Kent come in. I had JKH’s pampers stamped at half time but he impressed me in the second half. Likely no change tbh.

Jesse has never had much spring but he can't get off the ground at all right now. I'm with the rest brigade. Tmac and Pedo should be able to get it done.

T Smith for Hogan (Managed)?

No point risking Hibbs for GC even if ready.  Save for the big one agaisnt Swans

No Fritsch is a gun and his kicking alone is needed. Hunt hasn't played any football.

Absolutely W .

Fritsch was our only small medium forward standing up in first half. Mandatory he stays in.

i'd drop hogan. i wouldn't even call it a rest. hogan was a disgrace last night and squibbed about 3 contests, well before any 'injury'.

No change unless someone is sore, no VFL Hurts anyone pushing for a spot and everyone played their role last night so should be a simple week for selectors

Clearly not right is he. Didnt look like himself at all. He draws an extra defender which is why they left hm on the ground I think but, like many here, I think we need to rest him. We need a fit JH in the last couple of games. We also have Smith and Weid and Pedo that can all play his role better than he played it ( in the state he was in) last night.

100% correct except no Weid please we want to win

Need Hogan fit and not sore if we are to do anything in September,   I still have not counted any chickens.

JKH  was in my mind poor for the first half but improved for some important touches and moves in the second. Almost a confidence thing.   If the selectors thought enough of him to put him in, there will be no change. His second half gets him a bit more time.

So my only change   rest Hogan  bring in Pedo  to keep the structure the same.  Cam can at least do much the same as Hogan, and Jesse gets a rest and recovery period.     But I though we were toast 15 minutes first quarter   What Do I Know.

GO DEES!!!

He copped a knock on his hip (knee in a marking contest) against Geelong.  The commentators mentioned it at the time and said if he could keep moving it should be fine, but he'd feel it during the week.  You could see it being worked on during the game and he was clearly inconvenienced by it and then he copped another knock to the knee.

I don't think it's a given he needs a rest as it might come good during the week.

Surprised on the calls to drop JKH, that was just about the best game I’ve seen him play from memory.

Only change (non injury enforced, ie Hoges) would be Smith. Killed us regularly. I wonder if it’s worth it with Hibbo only a few weeks away though given his replacement (Wagner) would only be a temp.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
