I'm calling fake news from the following line in the article which is the only mention of contract talks being on hold without any citing of sources or a statement from Brayshaw or management.

The Demon has made clear he wants to stay at Melbourne, but is likely to hold off on signing a new deal for at least another month after starting the year in the VFL team.

The media give me the [censored].

Was that Tom Morris again?? Of course he will hold off, he and his manager want to get as much value as they can. He is playing good footy again and will want to string together a long period of good footy then go to the table. Smart move.... Oh nooooeeesss he is off to Freo... ppfffttt

Players hold off all the time. Especially if they’ve been injured or playing out of form.

If they know they can only increase their value by backing it up in the seniors, they’ll take that opportunity to squeeze more $ out of the club towards their contract. The media needs to disconnect themselves from thinking that putting contract talks on hold, means they are thinking of leaving the club.

Yes....but it makes for good muck raking....fodder for the trolls... effectively clickbait.

What I really hate is when players are into negotiating mode and co-incidently produce best career form. I hope this in not the case.

His career was at the crossroads post his concussions and his value probably at an all time low. By all reports he worked his arse off over the summer and didnt miss a single session. His form is in direct correlation to his efforts over many MANY months and he is re establishing himself as a potential A grader. He's right to be waiting to re sign atm.

Its click bait, folks!  The article makes it clear the Club wants to sign him up and Gus wants to stay.

If feeling doubtful listen to him as a guest on the AFL Exchange podcast.  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-08/podcast-how-a-demon-got-his-mojo-back  around the 15 minute mark.

He says something like: It is a romantic idea to play your career at one club and it definitely is attractive to him...hopefully what the club is building is worth more than money".  Listen to his tone of voice - very genuine.

After two years of setbacks he deserves a few months to establish his credentials for a decent contract - same as Tom Mc is doing to establish his credentials as a forward before re-signing.  Gus is mature enough to block out the media noise and just focus on his game.

As an aside, on Tom's contract, Gus says:  “Everyone knows Tom is Melbourne thru and thru.  No one at the club concerned that he will leave.  He loves the club and they love him.”

The podcast is worth listening to, especially the first half as there is a bit of chat about the Dees.  Gus is an engaging and articulate young man.  He is a real asset to our club on and off the field.

For anyone who saw the footage at the end of the Saints game showing Gus' unbridled joy as he revelled in the accolades from several team mates, it's clear he's not going anywhere.   Of course he wants to consolidate his spot and form before getting down to the nitty gritty on the contract.     Yawn.....

It’s smart for player and club to cool there jets on signing him up. Obviously Angus’ point of view of getting himself better to try maximise his coin makes sense as we discussed already.

Im just as happy for the club to hold off as well as I don’t want to sign a kid for 3 or 4 years who’s career could be stopped next week if he gets a bump to the scone again or we have to wrap him in cotton wool for 15 weeks a year.

I really rate Gus and happy to pay him the $$ as long as his body holds up

He would be crazy to sign a contract now as he's heading into some seriously good form and is finally getting a run in the midfield.  Every kick, mark, handball, tackle and clearance he accumulating is seeing his price go up and up.  With that said, I'm very confident that he'll stay and be rewarded with some pretty good coin.

Not sure about that.  In light of his previous concussion issues, i think security should be a big thing for him.

Listen to this week's AFL podcast in which Angus is one of the hosts and you'll be under no illusion about his commitment to stay.

Listen from 14 minutes 39 seconds.

Sounded far more sincere that HWSNBM all those years back.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
