Kelly was pushing for an exit and only signed a bumper deal instead of the proposed long term deal. He wants to come home to Melbourne, Scully on the other hand is more being pushed out so GWS can keep their other stars just like Shiel was.

Kelly is a better thought, than Gaff.

Kelly... or Whitfield, or Shiel ?  either, would help the cause.

Big news. If Shiels stays Kelly or Scully needs to leave to fix cap issues. Kelly dream alive boys.

They'll push out Lobb and Finlayson. That's if they don't get what they want for Shiel.

They'd be mad to trade Kelly a year early, he's vital for them to win the flag and won't lose value in a years time.

He is out of contract at end of next season and he wanted to leave last time his contract was up. If he wants to stay now then so be it but if he still wants out we should be making moves.

Stating the obvious, but will be Interesting to see who comes in as we already have Lost Vince and Balic?? With the likes of Bugg, Filipovic and Pedersen departing too?

Pruess appears ours potentially May, but I hope we land some speedy mids/forwards?

See Toby Bedford thread

Not sure how we could make it happen but in my opinion Lachie Whitfield is exactly what we need. His performance in their losing final was exceptional. Great spread, excellent user of the ball and a heap of courage. We are not that far a away but we need an elite runner to play wing

Traceable. Tyson Kent jkh Bugg

Retired. Balic Vince -2

likely delisting.  McKenna  Filopovic King Johnstone (re-rookie) -4

Other Delisting possibles (1 of) Bugg Pedersen jkh

7 spots likely available

Preuss in

draft picks. 38, 50, 56, 74. (Bedford, Lockhart, Hore, Ayton-Delaney)

rookie draft pick 14 (taller options)

kielty upgrade rookie

johnstone - downgrade to rookie

I reckon yesterday showed me lack a gorilla minder. Oscar just gets monstered too often and frost while he’s been good had a shocker.

I also think our wings tend to get exposed due to a lack of speed there.

in saying that I think most coaches would take our list given the opportunity so it’s really an icing on the cake thing.

i personally think Jesse hogan being tried as a key back isn’t the worst idea.

He would be very very handy.

I'm hoping the Bombers spend all of their chips on Shiel.  Sounds like Hawks have shifted focus to Wingard.

Suns = Feeder club for everyone else.

AFL must be embarrassed.

Garlett can go.

Yes, hope we keep Dean Kent. Valuable, tough, fast, accurate.

A Wingard, in decline, would be a perfect accompaniment to the greed of Whoreform.

Whitfield will be a great replacement off half back

A good acquisition, if possible.

I feel for the guy too. Had to put his body on the line a few times this year and it resulted in an injury. Pretty sure both times he'd just come back in and looked sharp. Our forward line looks super dangerous with him playing IMO.

Would personally have a serious look at jack Martin. If he wants to come back to vic I think his class and speed would be very handy for us up forward.

I have stuff all understanding of the trade system and have a couple of questions...

We have 2018 picks 32/43/50/86 currently (tbc once FA compensation and priority picks awarded). I assume 2019 picks are still intact but at present you'd have to expect we're going to have late round picks (and will eventually have to retain future first rounders under the rules).

We don't have a heap of currency in our fringe players who'd be after better opportunities elsewhere, and there seems little enthusiam for trading a top player.

This being the case, how do we realistically get a Lachie Whitfield or another contracted player? Are we simply going to be limited to bring in Free Agents?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Spot on post, my understanding is we have to use our first round pick in the 2019 draft.  So really we don't have a lot to play around with.  North will want our second round pick which will be about 37 after priority and free agent compensation picks hopefully we can get it done with our early third round pick and change.

I can't really see us improving our list through this years Draft and Trade period

Like most of us I feel pretty miserable today.  We all know what happened in Perth and the 2's couldn't get it done in the GF.  I've looked at several phantom drafts, which have reminded me that we don't have a first round pick, because we on traded it last year.

So the question, which sits in my current state of emptiness.  Do we have any currency, which we can use at the trade table, to at least marginally improve this current list.  I certainly hope the match committee have got something up their collective sleeves.

Martin's a WA kid, so not a go home case, possibly wants to get away from a dysfunctional environment. Would speak volumes about the mess at GC.

Then there's Adelaide:

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
