Clutching at straws but really the defence is a shambles.

No Lever, but surely we were better than this without him last year...

And how about  buying a forward coach whilst we are at  it.

And a bloody sports psychologist

And a psychiatrist for us fans

Totally agree, apauling result

Troy Chaplin has destroyed our backline. All our players gone backwards. Jetta, Hunt, Hibbered ect are a shadow of what they were last year.

Neeld has some time in his diary.... Sorry, too soon and not funny after a loss.

Backline had the same issues multiple times last year, when the forward and midfield pressure is off they are caught out time and time again.

We used to blame Rawlings. Now we blame Chaplin.

Rawlings seems to be  enjoying the freedom to run his own show to an extent at Casey. No point moving from there. I'm sure all the coaches will have a say about the backline issues.

I'm not sure how much the backline systems were to blame today. Personnel is/was a problem. Lewis just can't defend against any footballer with a pulse and Petty was move off talls to limit how much he was caught out. There was a lack of coverage speed.

But a lot of the Saints goals came from terrible midfield or exiting the backline turnovers, soft free kicks, dodgy 50m penalties from the midfield. I wasn't convinced it was really a backline issue.

Today I was far more worried about the midfield spread and terrible lack of forward pressure. And the lack of system going forward.

Bring back all the threads from the last couple of years where he was being buried.

Anyone who is not angry about what is going on is a Loser with a Losers mentality.

I don’t understand why they sent one of the most experienced backline coaches in the AFL to Casey and replaced him with a rookie.

A career move?

Stuff that, how about getting serious at a tilt at the flag?

I'd suggest he has ambitions of having a run at a senior gig in the future and is looking to improve his resume.

I really rate him, but I'd say the move is a promotion in his eyes.

Actually, when Lever found his Mojo, our backline became the best it's been, with this group.

The issues now, are since Lever has been unavailable.

Panic has never ever won a finals match W4tA's.

We are still building, and we are on the right track...  We are trying to find a way to patch-up our Key Backs, which will also help us with the kids who will be in our next GF.

Now isn't a time for Panic, or wrist-slashing.

I'd say your spot-on TPF39_

Exactly my thoughts when announced, that Rawlings took on his own team.

Have you watched the Presser of Goody's DV8? its friggen depressing mate. The little wins the Journey over it. We lost to St.Kilda DV8. Come on.

I don't think SENT s the right words, DZ.

I think Rawlings wanted his own team to coach, to show his wares.

Better in RednBlue, than some other colours.

No, I haven't WftA. I'm been moving house for the past 6 weeks, on my own.   A few hours each day.

So I've been distracted from the negatives of the past 3 weeks.

But also I've been more a realist, than most this year about our hopes, for 2018.

I know what AFL is like, and the temptations of getting ahead of ourselves happens to some club every single year.

We're NOT as good as some thought... and we are not as bad as some now think, from the past couple of weeks.

We are young.  We are inconsistent.  We lack mature leaders in the prime, 27Yrs +.

We lack class, inside the midfield !   We lack speed amongst our midfielders.

Here are a few GREAT Coaches that certainly Coach/ed angry.

Clarko, Barassi, Pagan, Malthouse, Kennedy

Those that didn’t eg Hafey & Matthews didn’t have to as they had unbelievable teams.

Hafey and Matthews coached angry, when they needed to.

Particularly T Shirt

I found out we werent that good last week live against Port. Yes i agree with you DV8, but we should not be losing to St.Kilda.

Flat out Embarassing this is, there is no excuses or hindsight, the journey or little wins involved with this loss.

At least we can get on with other things in our lives, hope the moving hasnt been to strenuous.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
