That mis kick he has early in the second term seemed to shatter his confidence.  As you say, hopefully the boys get around him and he can improve in the second half.  I guess it can't go much worse than the first.

yes it can

Even if we manage to win this game, our coaches and on field leaders need a huge kick in the you know where, because our brand of football is terrible. We have no intelligence nor skills on field. If half way through the season we can show this standard of football against a bottom team, we should hang our head in shame. Forget the umpiring, it’s our fault.

I'm feeling (first-half) broken!  We need 22 contributors.  Is that too much to ask?

Looks like a first gamer. When that is the first comment you mention after watching that I would think you would mean it’s had an impact. Both have looked good at VFL.

I posted a few comments before this post. Trust me I would never blame a first gamer for a loss. Nor is any one player ever to blame for a loss (unless you miss a goal from 6meters out near the siren...)

I am just wondering why he got a game ahead of Frost, having not seen much of him live.

Nothing to suggest he won’t be a player, but he doesn’t look ready at the moment.

Feel for Petty, has had an absolute nightmare. Hope the boys get around him and he can lift in the second half - his confidence would have taken a pounding.

Can't see them getting his confidence up when their own is most likely shot as well.

Rather a kid learning to game the hard way than passengers. Lewis

weak as [censored]

Still in this game...take away the 4 goals from easy frees and 50m pen and we are in at least equal. If goody makes some changes for once then its up for grabs. Dont blame oliver for that 50 m ....hes frustrated by not getting any frees.

Love the positivity in backing up a young kid.  Well done.

Havent left this early in a long time.

Couldnt watch anymore and would rather go and spend time with my little girl.

I dont even know what to say anymore.

To the latter of the law the umps have been correct. But that protected area rule is stupid. We have been lazy with our pressure and a lot of players need to pull there finger out.thank goodness for max or we would be copping a hiding. Big 2nd half coming up

The protected area was to allow a player to roll around and not to have players stop the kick by running in a direct line.

As usually they they have forgotten why the rule was made and just call it as an infringement.

Anyone know where I can get forms for supporter health compensation? Blood pressure is through the roof, liver is a fatty mess and have developed RSI from twisting long neck bottle tops....all due to watching one the worst first half’s of footy I can remember....l

Few careers on the line this second half I reckon. Max a one man band.

Petty is not the reason we are losing. No crumber. No midfield field run and connection from the wings and dumb players going for the same ball (air and ground) is.

Petty is not AFL standard at this stage. Can't mark, can't punch & way to loose on his opponent. Was average at Casey prior to being selected. Frost & Keilty are way ahead of him. As for Joel Smith what the EFF has he done out there?

Ommac not great either today.

One word: inexperience.

Need cooler heads out there. Really missing Lever, and Vince straight back in?

I'll give you 20/1 odds for a Melbourne win.

AFL Match Centre at half-time still has us $1.60 & Saints $2.34. I also expect a big second half and a win running over them. Wouldn't expect anything less given who's on the park. Anything else then yes, we have longer term issues including selection & match-day coaching strategies that Goodwin seems hesitant to address.

Hogan, Petracca and T McDonald with 9 possessions in total between them....our forward structure needs  a shake up

The 3 tall forward line only works if they play smart footy by at least one playing high and another leading out wider AND at least 2 are in good marking/goal kicking form.  So far no one has stuck their hand up with T-Mac probably the only danger scoreboard wise.

Swap a tall for a crumber FCS as per last week!

We need run / speed on the outside particularly at the G and instead we have too many plodders spending time through the middle in Hogan, Tyson, Jones, Harmes and a dedicated insider in Clarry (who actually has a bit of toe once he gets outside but rarely does).

Petty is a mile off AFL and Smith not much better.  Frost has a number of flaws but at least gets to and spoils / intercepts  more contests.

Goody's not learning from his previous mistakes and his selections after the Pies match have made a slow team through the middle, slower, taking away a potential small crumber in Spargo for Tyson.  As a bare minimum Spargo should have been in for Hannan wh's hit rock bottom last few weeks.

Will need a huge lift, especially from Petty, Smith, O-Mac (super ordinary so far), Hogan, Jones, Viney, Clarry and Brayshaw (ordinary disposal) if we are to come out of this with the 4 points.

Defining game. Lose this and it’s goodbye finals.

Petty is not AFL ready. Feel sorry for him. Bad call giving him a game

You have to look, to see.

Lever's loss in a big one, and we are a young list.  Apart from the 4 oldest players.

We do need more maturity, and around the middle. Sloane.

Gaff would help but more-so outside.

Viney is tagged and is down.  We do need another tough quality in/under player, but one who has some pace and some smarts. After this, we need to focus on our centreline. To get that right.

Hunt 's season has been a big loss, Re form, etc.

We can win this game, so need to get on with it.
