Demons will most likely test my resolve. Is it against the spirit to pay for a cheat day on the very first day?

Same here... a loss today will likely give way to the shortest dry July run ever. ?

Beau Maister to kick 6.

Incredible to think, but if we lost today by 20+ points and North beat Essendon we would fall out of the 8.

cant get to ground today as SWMBO  insisted upon my attendance at a family shindig  :(  I cut a deal...the telly in the movie room with a bar is fair game ;)    Im not really into cuddling noobs and gooing  over baby talk.   Im sure I'll be joined  by other XY's :)

Bog Tmac 7 goals 2 points . 14 kicks 1 handball 8 marks

not my thing...but what the Hell

Dees by 19 points  81 v 62

T mac  3 goals, Jesse 3 goals

BOG  Oliver......closely followed by the Gus

I reckon the Aints will try to tie us up. The G had fat wings..if they can corral us to one side ( easily done apparently ) they can stifle our inside50's.

If they crowd our forward 50 will will suffocate. Interesting game ahead...interesting....but not pretty

If we are being reasonable, we have only put in 3 bad performances this year, against Richmond, Hawthorn and the Pies. Outside of that we have been pretty consistent with our efforts and the style of footy we play.

I see no reason at all for it not to continue. The Saints aren't much chop and, while I can see the having a dip, our pressure and effort around the ball will prove too much in the end.

Dees by 6 goals.

Note:  The omission of Vince and injection of Petty impacts experience / age average substantially and obviously adds an extra sub 50 gamer and one less in the 150 plus. . No time to alter.  This obviously works in favour of the Saints on these stats although i have not altered for the Saints Ins/Outs.  Approx guide only.

Top 10 Players Last Round Comparison - Score / Rank*

* Scores do not account for ruckman's Hit Outs to Advantage.

Overall Team Score Comparison (from each team's last encounter)

Demons:  55.08^    Saints:  59.97^

Weighted Score Differential:   Demons -4.88

^ includes the Saints/Demon "Ins/Outs" with notional scores for Geary, Joyce & Petty of 2.0 a piece and using Weids' average for the season of 1.513 (excludes hit outs to advantage in resting ruck roles).

The Demons played a genuine top 8 side in it's last round vs the Saints only win against as bottom 4 club.  The Saints coming off a buy so it's a long time between games to be judging any form now, especially using stats alone.  The two glaring aspects of the Saints win against the Suns from public stats....Lack of pressure with only 9 one percenters vs the Demons 43.  And clearances.... Demons 54 (against a top 8 rated mid field) vs the Saints 44 (against a bottom 4 team).  We bring similar intensity vs Port with pressure on the ball carrier, inside winning the clearances AND provided we are reasonably efficient on the scoreboard and this SHOULD turn into a solid but not spectacular win.  Fingers crossed we bring it.

Pure Stats Predictor:  The Saints by 14 points

Does this mean it becomes a draw ?     I think after their bye and our loss   we will react more aggressive for the inside 50s

and we should win by 6 goals or a touch more   but I know nuthin

Go Dees

thanks @Rusty Nails   quite sobering !!

A lot of folk need to be prepared for a closer game than many suspect

Think this will be like the Essendon game. A comfortable 6 goal win, after a dismal game against Collingwood (Hawthorn) followed by an improved but still losing effort vs Port (Richmond). Hopefully the start to another 6 game winning streak ?

NO LATE CHANGES

FINAL INTERCHANGES

Melbourne: James Harmes, Christian Petracca, Dom Tyson, Josh Smith

St Kilda: Luke Dunstan, Hunter Clark, Paddy McCartin, Darragh Joyce

Heading in now on train.

Looks to be a beautiful winters afternoon.

I hope the boys are switched on from the first bounce. Flat track bullies or not, home games have been very average this year.

A big win would be nice.

Holy shut the door! Just realised it’s an early game... was thinking later.

Need to drop the oil and spin a filter on the Mustang pronto.

Obviously a must win game today. This is one of the four games we can’t afford to lose (Saints, Freo, Dogs, Suns). It would be good to get another percentage boost, but at this stage I’ll just take the four points.

Reckon Brayshaw will have a good game today, seems to play well against the Saints from memory.

Gorgeous day here at the G. Go Dees.

Dees win by 28 points.

Let us hope that we do not forget the whole Southern Stand side of the game as we did against the Filth.

It is a patch of blue in which to run freely (aka Travis Johnston) for fwd attacks and our historical usage thereof has led to great success over the years. When our players cramp the Members flank opposite, it is time to go home as we will surely lose the game. Carna Dees!

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
