Probably. But to be 2 down on rotation playing away from home is a big ask.ย

Port are shaky. In fact only Richmond and GWS really strike me as threats for the flag. Especially now that West Coast have lost their ruckman. If GWS get their list healthy going into finals, I reckon theyโ€™ll give it a shake. They scare me. The talent on their list is sickening. I hate them and I hate the AFL for creating them.ย

You're saying what commentators were saying about both the new teams 5ย years ago. Things haven't worked out that way. Instead the 'dogs and Richmond have come out of the blue.

This is GWS's 7th Yr in the AFL. In their 7th Yr West Coast won their second flag. Adelaide had won two flags in their first 6 Yrs. Port played in two Grand finals and won a flag in their 8th Year. Hawthornย  won 4 flags in 8 Yrs, 2008 - 2015.

They haven't done anything extraordinary andย  If it's not us it may as wellย be GWS as far as I'm concerned.

I reckon GWS could win it from outside of the top 4 too. I was thinking that over the weekend. Will be tough without Cameron and Patton though. They might have got it done the other night, but how much longer?

We've seen it enough times when we're on the wrong end, sometimes teams will be missing players but they'll see it as a challenge rather than defeat.ย

Round 23, whether it hinges on our making the finals or not (I really hope not) is going to be a huge game. If it does end up that way I'm on board with the stand alone Monday night fixture.ย

I take it that you weren't around in 1987?

Wasn't sure where to put this but I read over the weekend where Leighย Matthews didn't have Maxy in the best 5 players on the ground. As both coaches gave him maximum votes, I feel that alone just highlights how out of touch Matthews is with the current game (as well as his bias against Melbourne). He is not the only one of the (dial a quote brigade) to put us down.

RUCKMAN Max Gawn continues to lead the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.ย

Gawn received the maximum 10 votes in Melbourne's 50-point win over the Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Saturday.ย

The 2016 All-Australian has been in brilliant form this year and is now a genuine chance for this year's Brownlow Medal.ย

Matthews has always thought ruckman are overrated thatโ€™s why. Heโ€™s just too stubborn to admit heโ€™s wrong, as itโ€™s been a great year for the ruckman. This coming from a hypocrite who wants to introduce the red card after his career. Just ignore what he says.

Speaking of commentary, is anyone else getting sick of that know it all smug pretty boy Sam McLure?

Matthews has always hated Melbourne. He was an a#@ hole when played for the urine side, and too this is still an a#@ hole.

This is Aussie rules football and not soccer, he and any one else who tries to bring this red card c#*@ can go back in the hole where they crawled out from.

The day they start to do such rubbish is the day they lose a lot of people from the sport, just leave the game alone, and stop bringing all these stupid things into our game for goodness sake.?

SFebey i agree with what you said 100%?

Gawn was far andย away the most influential player on the ground. If he can't see that he shouldn't be a football commentator anymore, he was a great (and thuggish) player back in the day but that's not this day anymore.

These last bunch of games will be a true test of our club. We haven't really beaten anyone of note, we have to now.

I'm guessing Matthews gave McCrae 5 votes, Hunter 4 votes and Wallis 3 votes. If we're lucky Brayshaw and Oliver may have scrounged the 2 and 1 votes.

Big name players keep falling over. Now James Sicily out with a suspected broken wrist. Attrition is going to play a big part in the run up to the ย finals.ย

Viney, Lever, Treloar, Dunn, Sicily, Naitanui, Crouch, Stringer, Patton, Cameron, Waite, Jonas, McVeigh, Hannebery.....

The only team of the teams fighting to make the eight that hasn't lostย  a key player for the run home is Geelong.

Absolutely. I said early this season that it will be a very long season, even more so than the last couple as the defensive intesity hasย  gone up a level and the game is more balistic than ever.

.Goody has said on a number of occasions it will be the team that develops the most that will win. Which is code for the team that peaks at the right time like tigers and dogs did.

Absolutely nonplussed about Viney being out.

Much more distressed about Lever.

And if I was from other clubs I'd be more worried about Treloar, Dunn, Sicily, Nat, Patton, Cameron and McVeigh

Toย qualify forย finals we need to beat 1 of Geelong/Adelaide, Gold Coast and 1 of Sydney/West Coast/GWS + have a very healthy % which could help us sneak in.

If we can get another 1 win on top of that we should be in, another 2 a definite.

That St.Kilda loss sucks

McEvoy and Sicily are huge outs for the Hawks.ย  they are no longer the top 8 certs they looked

Kennedy also went down for the Swans, not sure if he'll miss games but that would be massive

The Tigers finally have 4-5 injuries - although not to any stars - but at least they will be tested a bit.

Stay fit, young Demons!

About bloody time, though as you point out itโ€™s none of the key/star players. How do you think they would go with Rance out for the year (Lever)ย and Cotchin (Viney) out for an extended period of time.ย

Would they still be cruising easy on top?

Iโ€™ve said it so many times you canโ€™t win/compete for premierships without luck and they have hadย it in spades. Not taking away from their achievements because every premiership team every year has had it.ย

Article on the AFL site has us finishing in eighth spot - although they don't really show any process of how it happens.

Ladder predictor: 26 games that will shape the eight

I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that round 23 will be identical for us just like last year.

A win this weekend is incredibly important.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
