Schuey pushes guy in back after ball goes out, he goes to ground. Gets up and bumps Scuey in back, he goes to ground. Free kick Schuey. What a joke...

Ridiculous.  And not even the weak excuse that the ball was in play in one case and not the other case. But not unusual - umps hardly ever pay a free for a push in the back after the ball goes over the line, even though the player is pushed towards the fence.  You have to hit the fence hard to get a free.     AFL umpiring is a disgrace.

What a rubbish game, shocking. Apart from 1Q burst of goals it’s been awful

8g combined in last 3Q

It's a long season, injuries are debilitating, and most teams are shite. We can still win this flag.

Nothing going right for eagles. Saw about three gimme's in the goal square go comically wrong. A few injuries to key personnel can make any team look average

This game decided in First Quarter by the umpires, how strange, and by NOT paying free kicks to West Coast, who were incidentally playing drivel football.Never has a football code required an umpiring overhaul like ours. If we don't it is going to cause a riot soon.....

How on Earth did we beat Essendon? They're exactly the kind of fast-running team we'd lose by 60 to.

that's why we need speed.

Don't know if many have heard,,, speed kills.

Endurance is all good, but speed cracks things open.

Was only a matter of time before the Eagles bubble burst.    I have had them missing the finals in a few ladder predictor simulations.

Worst 10-1 team of all time.

Some similarities. West Coast have had a ridiculously easy draw, the umpiring over here in favour of them is crazy as well.

Worst umpiring I have seen in a long time. Needs to be looked into.

If you believe a Gil run body will look into integrity you must believe in Mr Claus and that rabbit who is featured around Easter time.

On the other hand if it somehow effects their coffers as a result of the game becoming less attractive to watch then he will be into it.

Certain Clubs are allowed to do things, by Umpires, that others are not.

What i've noticed in the last two weeks are mainly centred around playing on, time allowed on marks, cribbing on marks, tonight in particular it was high tackles not paid to WC, especially in first quarter, along with shepherding favouring only one side.........

They lost their whole forward structure without darling or Kennedy.

Wiuld like us to win without hogan or tmac

Which was more than made up for by the umpires giving them a free ride and doing everything they could to get West Coast the win.

Pretenders.

Essendon start on their AFL endorsed run to the finals.

Everyone knew before the game that Kennedy and Darling were out yet they still tipped them. West Coast, like Melbourne continue to get ahead of themselves. Richmond and the Bulldogs in their respective years won the flag without having the best list of that season. Mindset is so important yet it seems many struggle with the concept.

Its great when we have blokes like Bellchambers hitting blokes like Nik Nat thirty metres off the play and getting fined two thousand slap on the wrist. Reminded me a lot of Hogan incident, but then they wanted to make him to look like a stager, didn't they. Apparently only one shot suitable enough for TV, probably just a rabbit cut.....

You could make a reasonable case that Gold Coast are the most insipid professional sports team in Australia. They may as well rename themselves BYE.

Jeremy Cameron is gonna go for at least  4-6 weeks for a shocking elbow on Brisbane’s Harris Andrews. One of the worst I’ve ever seen.

As bad if not worse than bugg minimum 6 weeks or AFL are not serious

They're not serious. Should go for 6 minimum and his record is very poor. But, you know, GWS is still that project that must succeed. Bring in some bullshite biomechanic and Harris Andrews may find that he's suspended for headbutting Cameron's elbow.

I have no faith in the impartiality of the competition.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
