You’re not wrong. I looked up next weeks game hoping it was at Marvel Stadium, I was disappointed when I found out it was at the ‘G.

Viney, Hibberd and Stretch all injured since the Darwin game.

Once again this ridiculous fixture will sap the energy of the team.  Expect more injuries over the coming weeks.

Yes. It simply must go. We need every bit of luck and planning to go our way.

This fixture, if the AFL want it, should be rotated through ALL Clubs

we whinge about Darwin each year and rightly so.

Time the club came out with the financials on the escapade and seriously looked at the revenue it would need to replace the NT funding.

$50 each member to avoid the Northern territory or whatever but let's put it on the table and work it out.

By the way nothing commercial in confidence about the figures because no other club in its right mind would commit to the Darwin game.

Not so sure we can blame Darwin for these injuries. Viney said this week he was sore prior to The Dockers game and IIRC didn't someone in DL say Stretch was advised to 'run the soreness out " in that same game?

Injuries happen and yeah we are likely to get more, we've had a pretty good run until the past week or so . I'd like to think we have the cattle to cover these injuries but we are not quite there yet, so the calibre of these players are hard to replace.

I'm all for getting rid of this fixture though,  at the very least we MUST have a bye afterwards.

Without doing any fact checking myself, what about the teams we play in darwin. Do they get any financial benefit from playing us there and how have they followed up the following weeks. Havent freo played well since darwin?

I would doubt it. An MFC home game so the gate proceeds are ours for what they are worth. May be a contribution towards travel costs but as I understand it the interstate clubs have always had a bigger travel allowance.

It's different to say the Port v Suns game in China where the Suns get a decent slice because in the last two years it's been a Suns home game.

It just makes no sense whatsoever to take a team from a mid winter environment to play in sub-tropical conditions unless one absolutely has to do it a la the Socceroos last year with games in Thailand and Malaysia.

So our opponents have to deal with it and recieve no compensation. Freo played alright against port last week. And teams havent fallen away in previous seasons like we have.

It's not just Darwin, Alice Springs ground is as hard as a rock too, stuff the heart of the nation game next year. Time to club started to rethink player welfare over money.

If you can find me one sports scientist or professional coach that says that playing in Darwin is a good idea (and by that I don't mean a neutral opinion) then I will agree. Football is a game of inches and we need every advantage we can get.

Playing in Darwin is not an advantage.

I've never said its an advantage. I just doubt it's the cause of our previous years fade outs. Or our injuries since then. If we are going to play it I would like it before the bye, we seem to be getting used to playing in darwin and it could become quite an advantage that round.

Edit.

Sorry I'll be a bit clearer i contradicted myself a bit there. I would be more confident facing sydney with no experience in darwin than the home game at the mcg. When its a lower placed interstate team not so much.

To be fair, Viney said he had discomfort in his foot prior to the Darwin game.

So it's Stretch and Hibberd. I think it's a long bow to draw in terms of Darwin having that affect, considering how we ran out last weekends game without any issue.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not play there, but blaming it for a couple of injuries is a stretch a best, pun intended.

Gee, there's a lot of huffing and puffing on here about what should be a basic recovery for professional athletes. We won the week after Darwin and surged in the second half of the game, didn't we? Must have been really tired from the tropical exertion.

Blame Hibberd's quad, done at training this morning, on a game two weeks ago? Or a toe injury to Stretch that is probably not even related to heat and humidity? Or Viney's foot condition that was pre-existing? Correlation does not equal causation, and in these instances there's probably not even a correlation.

What about all the people in the NT who love going to the games? The TV exposure we get, not just during the game?  The great financial benefits?

Oh, that's right, just abandon the concept and leave it to "someone else".

Share it around The AFL.

I don’t see any large clubs ever involved.

They don’t go near it by choice

TV exposure.... Darwin was not on FTA and on Foxtel it would have rated 3 men and a dog.

NT supporters... come on ... show me the numbers !!

The ground only holds 10k and Alice holds 6k most of whom follow the Crows and Port.

I don't see why that means we shouldn't be.

Gives the opposition a massive fitness advantage.

It’s all been said. People either love it or hate it

I would much prefer 2 home games in Melbourne. Better value for memberships and no extra travel strains on the team

Spot on Wiseblood I would say it is ridiculous.

However after the Darwin whiners  could not claim a bad performance after the Darwin game they come up with this rot.

2016 - Loss

2015 - Loss

2012 - Loss

2011 - Loss

You get the gist.

2018 - big win, running away in the second half

Happy to play there,  just give us the bye the following week .

I'm very nervous about how we recover for The Dogs match. Their pace could destroy us when we tire,  and we will.

Didn't see that  coming (to quote Mark Neeld) ... we actually destroyed them and they played under cover at Doglands to previous week.

And interestingly, Freo won after Darwin too (or perhaps one could say their opponents lost).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
