Let the actions on the park speak louder then the words in a presser this week please boys.

At least he addressed all the talking points from last week

that is a good sign in Goodwin’s own development. He knows he is under some pressure, that ‘s a good thing.

Don't think he is under any pressure but agree that it is good he addressed the talking points...sounds like he changed his tune a touch re 'fugazi' (ie external noise).  Perhaps he ignores it when people talk us up and acknowledges it when they are having a dig.

Either way, I like the plain speak without any 'mantras' or buzz words.

Of course he is under pressure, we have failed in games when pressure has been applied.

Finals are on the line right now

I thought Goody was more up-beat than his 'standard' mid-week presser. I know I was a tad more positive after listening to him!  Maybe I'm 'clutching at straws', maybe I just need a footy recharge after the bye. Heart saying Demons (obviously!!), head undecided at this stage.

Speaking of clearances. I have read despite Gawns overwhelming ruck dominance, our midfield rank 17th for first touch leading to clearance in the comp. One effing huge discrepancy there. Finger points to Jones and Viney being the main culprits who seem to think they are playing rugby when then they get the ball first. Dumb as batshit in their inside roles as main grunt players and leaders.

Sounds more like they are all responsible, including Gawn.

You're being a bit tough on Viney given the numbers are for the season to date in which Viney has only played 4 games.

I like to think that this is a sign Our Football Board, Admin, and Footy Dept, are working together;....  and are going to try to keep us all informed and up to date...  instead of the Tiddily-Winks that AFL clubs have dealt the footy public,,,  over the past 20 years or so.

I really hope so,  that they start to treat us all as partners in footy,,,  instead of Footy-Sheep to be fleeced at will.

Great stat... you have to wonder why is it so?

Against superior midfields yes but to be 17th is extremely worrying

There is some grey, mate. To say Goodwin's job is under pressure would be ludicrous, but to say there's expectation would be closer to the mark.

That's quite a sound-off against our co-captains without bothering at an attempt to dig any deeper into the stat. How do we rank for first touch alone? Are we first to the ball while the opposition are waiting to tackle? Are we instructed to lock it in until a clear option arises? How are our stats for scoring from stoppages/the centre - are the opposition clearing sideways or into territorial danger while we're selective with how we want to clear the ball? Or are Viney and Jones just stupid?

Where did you get that information from?

Whatever it is, it has failed against the good sides.

Gawn is giving us first option

"Really exciting" sounds promising. Been awhile since I watched that video. He looks like a faster and more dynamic version of Wagner with a good searching right foot kick on him and bravery to affect the spoil as a loose defender.

I actually see it as a positive stat, and one we can rectify.  We are clearly getting our hands on the ball - it's what happens after that that is challenging.  We aren't able to get the next disposal off effectively, although prior to our last fortnight of football we were ranked highly in terms of general clearances, so it's not a huge problem.  But it's one we have the ability to fix, so I'm not worried about it.  If we were ranked last in skills, conversion inside 50 etc then I'd be worried.  But we have the talent to change this stat, beginning with this week.

We've played 12 games and you're blaming a player who's played in 4 ?

I can't speak for SWYL but I read it not that his job is under pressure but nevertheless he is still under pressure to achieve more, and more consistently.  That does not (necessarily) meaning if things don't change soon he will lose his job.

There is pressure and there is pressure.

There is pressure and there is pressure.

and there is pressure. As head Coach it’s on him

He is well paid, but must perform.

I want finals and Cups, not excuses.

We have already had all those.

Last monday was very ordinary....

Where do we rank on overall first touch (whether leading to the clearance or not)?

If we lead the first touch by along way, and the stat is expressed as % that may explain it.

A bit like how we have the most "rebound 50s against" in the comp.  But we also have the most "inside 50s" So it isn't surprising.
