Fair enough. Out of interest though, what did you think about the Jetta move at the time? Personally I think Kent's shown more than Jetta had.

Kent lost me in his second season with a string of lazy performances. He's a goal kicker (when he's kicking them straight), but hasn't improved on his work rate in all his time at the club. He's old Melbourne.

Both Trenners and Watts there were recruited under Bailey, and were already 3 years in by the time Neeld got there.

 

I'm not nit picking, but I reckon Neeld gets painted with too much, and Bailey too little. If we had Roos instead of Neeld I doubt there would have been a different outcome. Sure he was a B-grade coach, but so was the list he inherited.

Does his strings on cold nights. Which reminds me of Cyril Rioli, who does his strings in Tasmania so they stopped playing him there!

Kent's not to the same level, but the reality is we don't have anyone really who's closer.

His problem isn't lack of opportunity.  When he's fit he plays.  The problem is that he's constantly injured.  That's not going to change with another club and I doubt that other teams are going to want to take the chance given his history.  Best he can hope for is Fremantle I would think.

The N stands for 'no' and the H stands for '-heads' in an often cited footy club policy that is promptly forgotten about when the likes of De Goey enter the market. Incidentally, Collingwood won a flag off the back of an all-DH policy in 2010 and have underperformed ever since they reversed it and switched to a Buckley-boy model. Until this week, of course.

As for the rest of our small/medium smalls: I love Spargo but he is just a kid. I'm still very sceptical on ANB who works super hard but makes terrible decisions under pressure and isn't quick enough to get out of trouble or to run down good defenders. Garlett is pretty well done unless he proves otherwise. Hannan is just floating through games and isn't a proven tackler either. Bugg has the right work rate but his skills are just too far below the standard. Vanders is a hope that he can get back. Balic is yet to prove anything.

Pretty much what I'm saying is I have little faith in any of our small forwards and I really could see Kent coming back in and making the team better and I'd like to see him rotated up to the wing for short bursts as well. 

I wouldn't bet on it happening or working, but there's a lot of people putting faith in some players who haven't done anything really. If Kent does come back in and isn't picked then yeah both he and club would be better off parting ways. But there's still a lot of time left in the year.

Nice analysis there DS! I wholeheartedly agree- DK has major upside when he’s on, and if slotted in when we need him, I’m sure he’ll rise to the occasion

If he wants to stay and get a good deal he has 11 games to prove he’s worth it. Otherwise I think we should facilitate a trade.

Has always been a 'nearly' player.

Has the physique. Can look impressive on the ground. Can put up decent (not elite) numbers when he is on. But nothing to justify a midfield spot.

We could throw him in as steak knives of Gaff nominates us as his chosen club.

As an aside, wasn't he suspended in 2017 for drinking with BenKen and Spencil?

He's never been a midfielder since U18's, he's a wing/flanker and always will be. Has missed so much footy it will have affected his tank. Good luck trying to get a game in an AFL midfield, maybe GC or STK are the only two desperate enough but he'll never get on the park unfortunately for us or anyone else.

Always regarded him as a very handy player with G and D qualities, to complement his speed, drive and kicking abilities. Body is a worry though, recovery,  play, recovery, play, recovery, looking elsewhere?? Terrible shame.

That is a fair offer - if he can provide a positive response that would be great. He is, however, NOT a midfielder. He is a flanker - the space suits his run and carry, and his passing skills with an occasional drift into the goals for scoring.

I always liked Kent, it was a shame that he did his shoulder when he did because he offered us quite a lot but I can understand why he would like a new opportunity elsewhere.
