Funny how this thread doesn't pop up in the previous two weeks, or the two games prior to finals, when he was terrific.Β

Then the usuals come out to pot him in a game where 20 players stunk it up. Funny that.Β

I think the problem here is that Jordan was brought in because of his experience and finals nouse and today, he, himself, started the rot.

He turned it over with a shocking handball for a goal, he then did it again, he then belted Ryan in the guts for another one and then gave away a 50 for stupidity and another goal.

He seemed to go half hearted at the contest a few times as well.

Most on here are furious with that.

As someone said he was given 1/10 by a Journo for today's effort.

His bad play and resultant goals started the rot and yes we went downhill from there.

The team was putrid, but IMO and many others on here, he started it.

Confidence can be lost in momentum and he killed it.

I am not knocking Jordan, only his game today.

TBH, I think he would agree.

I won't argue that his game was well below the standard he set for himself over the last month.Β Β

What I am disappointed in is how quick the people who want to sink the boots in are just as quick to ignore him when he plays really well and provides the leadership we've been after.Β  Spencer is obviously the worst as he wants his thread to stick, so he won't jump in here to praise his efforts, he just gives the impression that he's sitting in the corner, waiting for him to stuff up so he can pop his head out.Β  It's poor.

But, again, I won't argue that he played poorly today.Β  But as you say, others were just as bad.

He was terrible today but he has to play on next year for mine.Β

We’ll never know the full extent of the impact he’s had but I reckon it’s definitelyΒ more than what the eyeball test shows. Plus we do not have replacements for that position, not yet anyway.Β

Watch today there's about 6 of them !

Agree with his overall value, but today's game was the kiss of death, he did exactly what we were worried an inexperienced player would do. As brave as I think he has been and as great as he is, I also think he now 'hears footsteps' and is no longer a one touch player. Keep him as a coach but Lever takes his place. This is not because he is slow either, he failed badly at the QB role today.Β

I’m surprised we had 6 players that made such a positive impact on you!

Was awful today, but so was the whole team. The first 2 finals he did really well.Β Keep him one more year, but hopefully he’ll beΒ forced out of the 22 by the end of it, which is how natural progression should work.Β

Also let’s get a few names happening. Who are the 6 who can walk right into the BP/HBF composed kick, slow the game down when necessary, leadership role?

If I hear Josh Wagner as one of these I’ll be very upset!

Has been ok last few weeks until dying in the arse today, but we're mad if we don't start trying to upgrade ASAP. Cannot finish 2019 in the 1s if we're serious.

Baker: LOL

Problem with Baker?

He may not turn out too good, but you have to give them a try. Hard when Lewis is taking his spot.

And that is counted against him for today, yet not counted for the previous two wins?Β

No player is perfect, and we had plenty off the boil today.Β

To be fair, I found it inexplicable that they weren’t able to properly exploit Lewis and always felt a good team would find a way.

His crab-like lack of mobility means he has no other option than loopy handballs if you play him in the right way.

Brain-fades were just icing on a [censored] cake.

we won't know for sure whether some of his errors and ill discipline started the rot and dynamic of the team in the early part of the 1st quarter, but it certainly didn't help. having said that he was very influential inn helping the team progress to the prelim. had a good year overall

Preliminary final 0.5/10

the 2018 year 8/10

dessrves to play again with his role again as a defensive quarterback half back.Β

2019 will be his last year. Let’s deliver a premiership and Lewis 5th!!

can those who are criticizing him suggest who we replace him with?

One of the best late senior players we have picked up. Sure we gave him three years but it's not his fault that there's not someone bashing down the door to take his place.

And of course his first two finals were sublime.

Lever.

Lewis is still the best we have for footy IQ and analysing the play during quarters.Β  So for me he plays on and limit his games to the eastern seaboard to conserve his energy.Β

He was mentoring Lever who is a fast learner. When Lever went out we missed his leadership down back.Β  He has learnt plenty in the coaches box this year.Β  He will learn more playing alongside Lewis next year.

We don't have enough good leaders.Β  Jack Viney brings his own brand of leadership.Β  No offence to Jack but he doesn't have the subtlety and footy IQ Lever has.Β

Tbh I would like to see Lever as co-captain (with Viney) next year to learn more from Lewis.Β

If we are serious about winning a flag the best place for Jordy next year is the coaches box.Β  Slow, fumbly and lacks conviction in the contest.Β  He has battle fatigue and in all honesty has had it for most of the last two years.Β  Clarkson moved him on at the right time.Β  He has an acute footy brain and is a great communicator but if he is still more value in our side than Fritsch, Hunt or Lever next year, we aren't making finals, let alone competing for premierships.

Calling it COOKED! If we are serious he can stay on list with no guarantees of game time and be mentor at Casey. To slow exposed badly yesterday for pace and can make crucially dumb decisions.

Happy for him to stay on as a coach, but too many brain fades at crucial times for a so called”experienced player”.

He looked really slow at times this year and unfortunately he ain’t gonna get anyΒ quicker

Seeing those hospital handballs that resulted in goals 4 them made me cringe.

Look yesterday we needed the Lewis who played really well against geelong and hawthorn, but yesterday we got the undisciplined Jordan. The one who gave away a dumb free kick in theΒ 1st quarter resulting in a goal, gave away 50's butchered the ball, yes I know he wasn't the only one but he is meant to know better.Β

I suspect he may go on for another year though, or maybe he thinks he has had enough.Β

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’sΒ performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
