At MCG - 2 from 5

Away - 5 from 5

We seem to be a far better team away from the MCG.

Is it because of the MCC and history of the ground?

I believe the players play worse under the perceived scrutiny and judgement of the significant MCC crowd. As if they're a bit nervous and keen to impress.

Away from the G they are free, unshackled and born again. Anyone agree?

It was who we played. Hawks I  the wet and we were soft, and then tiges straight after. Should have beat the cats.

Anywhere, anytime needs to be the mantra this club needs to live by.

The GF will be at the G for the short/mid-term, the more we play at it the better. The team running around now is a far superior one than what was running around in the early rounds of the year.

Back to our favourite hunting ground Etihad this Saturday vs the struggling Doggies...

If we weren't returning from a warm game in Alice Springs Id be tipping the first 200 point game in the clubs history.

2 wins from 6 games in 2018.  Not sure if our game style is working at MCG.  In the modern era it feels like our home games at MCG do not have the excitement it once did, which is a long time ago.

We have improved a lot, however it feels like the MCG is no different to playing at any other venue.

Home grounds are now an advantage to interstate teams mainly because of one sided crowds.  As a club our administration should be looking at ways to win as many MCG games as possible.  It ain’t what it used to be at our home stadium.

Yeah, but the 'G' is also the home ground for 3 of the 4 teams that have beaten us there this year.can't.

It’s not the MCG its more about personnel. The four sides that have beaten us there are currently better more physical sides, throw in Sydney who will also beat is up and you have a list of the five sides that are currently better than us.

We have an easy month coming up, we will beat Port away this week then play St Kilda, Freo and the Dogs and will win all four likely sending our percentage off the charts which will be more than handy, that string of matches however will mask over the issues we have which will be on display against the Cats the following week. The Cats look to have gelled and improved more since round one and will be a tough test. Bottom line is though if we want to beat the more physically imposing clubs we need to weed out the bruise free types now before we play these teams in finals.

I don't think physicality is the issue Big D. We lack leg speed which is exposing us on the wider ground, against the teams equipped to exploit it. And I wouldn't be pencilling in St Kilda and Freo, if we don't bring the right mindset to those games..........

dont think the MCG is an issue at all.  we play the better teams there.  poorer team either at Etihad or we sell them to NT

Love the confidence, although I'm worried you haven't watched Port play this year. If QB wasn't season defining, this comes close.

Not bad playing these outback games with no-one watching but put a big crowd into the MCG and turn the TV cameras on and we get stage fright.
Embarrassing stuff.
AFL won't want to take the risk on giving us too many games on Prime time next year if we keep this BS up.

i am not impressed by our wet weather skills, Blues an exception. I think that had more to do with how we go at the G

Don’t have time to wrong a long post at present, but the single biggest issue we have with playing the MCG is our defensive press. It pushes far far too high up the ground. There are stages when OMac was is the deepest player, standing forward of the centre circle and less than a kick ahead of the play. Time and time again the ball slingshots out into half a ground of space for opposition to work with. It’s embarrassing and obvious to all.

Pull the defensive press back like it is on smaller ground where deepest defender is back near the goal square and we’d be a 5 goal better team at the G without any other change.

Agree LT, I said this earlier in the year, it’s at least 15m too high imo.

Slowest team through the guts in the comp is the Tigers and they are 16 straight at the G, fastest is GWS and they don’t win there, don’t think that is it Bob
