As long as there is someone to help Gawny out in the heat, leave the team as is.

Should be reward for effort.

Can Demonland please run a poll to decide whether a day where the temperature is forecast to start with a minimum of 11 degrees and rise to a maximum of 27 should be described as "hot"?

I don't think it should but it seems others do. Either that, or people keep believing that it will be hot just because there's an assumption that it's always hot in the NT (which is true for the Top End but not Alice Springs).

Agree this would be the perfect game to rest Gawn. If it is going to be slippery then Pedo would be the ideal replacement

It will be warm and dry.  It is Alice not Darwin. Check the weather forecast

Living in Hobart, I would consider 27 to be tropical.  They should consider calling the game off for safety reasons.

Happy for no change (even if weid is ready, send him to the VFL for a match and see how he goes), wasn't happy with how Bull started the match (holding the ball, not killing contest, etc.), but he adjusted to the tempo of the game and ended up having a statistically nice game.

Anyone have thoughts on us flying up the day before the match? I personally like the idea of going up 2+ days before (as any flight exposes the body to radiation due to thinner air and less molecules to deflect incoming cosmic rays, and i think that's an additional stress on the body that can have a small effect on performance; might only be 0.5% - but i want to be in peak physical condition).

Example article looking at endurance performance and dose of radiation (greater exposure = poorer exercise time to exhaustion, hence performance is decreased).

the afl web site segment 'match review' agrees about high and about a fine

Garlett only comes in for Spargo if the MC think that will actually make us better.  Not because it’s indigenous round.

Weideman deserves to get his spot back when fit. But I wouldn’t be rushing him back for an interstate trip and I have no problem with Bull getting another game.

It will be so humid and steamy and therefore super slippery come game time. Like playing in hot rain

Weidman does not his deserve spot back unless the player that has replaced him is not firing. I have high hopes for Weidman but I thought that Smith offered more. I know Smith is 27 but a debut of 18 disposals and 5 marks and 5 tackles is a pretty good debut( albeit it was in a team that was in red hot form and demolished and insipid opposition)

He was no good when the game was up for grabs. Piled it on a bit when the head had gone out of it for sure.

No change you'd think

I thought the same, but my brother (who is a much better footy player) said Hannan is in for defensive pressure. For me it's his disposal but not his effort, much like Tyson, Hunt, ANB (who had a day out).

Brutal. You have to love the commentator (Peter Landy?) saying he was “sure it was accidental”. Apparently kicking for goal isn’t the only thing that hasn’t improved over the years.

Absolutely does my head in every year when people compare Alice Springs with Darwin saying it will be humid, hot, slippery. They are completely different conditions... Alice springs will be 27 & sunny with a low of 11 and humidity at 23%. The conditions on the weekend will be almost perfect for footy, a little on the warm side of 27 but that’s it.

I thought Smith showed a lot, if he nailed that goal that would have been the icing on good performance.

I can't see Weideman coming straight back in.

Yes i know. Just some mild trolling on my part.

I was being ironic because every year this issue comes

I did think about putting a smiling PJ emoji next to my comment.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
