It's Essendon, cheating is in their DNA. They'll find a way to siphon money to him outside their cap. Just like their mysterious "legal settlements" to all the WADA convicted players who remained at the club. Payments which were never disclosed nor factored into the salary cap. Amazing that.

[censored] cheats.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with Shiel, he's an average midfielder. Oliver, Viney & Brayshaw are all better than him and Harmes and Petracca could easily surpass him also.

Last season he averaged just over 24 touches a game at under 70% disposal efficiency. He was elite only in inside 50s, everything else he is average or below average.

Won't be the difference between a flag or no flag at the Bombers.

i'm sticking with my 'too small, too selfish, prone to turn it over' rating

(seeing as we were never in the conversation to get him; if we were, i'd adore him)

Agree with this. Maybe not too small, but definitely a turnover merchant.

Slight upgrade from Devon Smith, good player but not a gun IMO.

must say I have not rated them but with Daniher back they should challenge for the 8 but no more

Wasn’t even in the best 3 mids at the giants.

Kelly, coniglio and ward all ahead of him and in my opinion a fully fit Scully is as well.

If they don’t win a final at a minimum their 2019 year is a failure

GWS salary dump and they'll get less than he's worth. Salary dumps recently made legitimate by the AFL, must've known something was happening

Even before this year, we'd won a final more recently than the Bombers.

Not too upset about Shiel. Turnover merchant and has a selfish attitude bred into him at that "team of champions" the Giants.

Shiel is a jet you guys are kidding yourselves.Very good get by the Bombers. They will give the eight a shake next season.

So good that the Hawks missed on him. Sucked in poos and wees you’re on the steady decline.

Nobody takes a $1.8million dollar pay-cut willingly.

Nobody ever.

I smell a pack of rats.

Now the radio is saying that the Dylan Sheil trade to Essescum may not happen (as GWS are demanding two first round draft picks)!

But Scully for a 3rd rounder is fair.

Scully might be lucky to play consistent minutes again so his worth is diminished. Who knows how banged up his ankle is and if he will ever reach his peak form again. Shiel is worth a first and second rounder I'd say, good luck to the Giants in trying to swindle the Dons.

Would not put it past the AFL to be dropping confected B.S to spice up tonight's live t.v extravaganza.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
