Should be out for no less than 6 weeks as per Buggy.

If he got less I wouldn’t be surprised cause it’s not a melb player going up.

Sickening acts of unprovoked violence on a playing field should be treated exactly the same as similar acts on our streets.  Just saw the act and the aftermath on TV. Distressing. Glad I didn't have a young one watching. Charge him.

the charging of Leigh Matthews in a court of law should never have occurred. Disclosure long after the event of what happened to cause that charge to be laid showed that it was wrongly motivated.

On the other hand the tribunal should if he is found guilty throw the literal book at him.

Brayshaw must have said something to him, and Gaff has looked at him and gone Whack!!

Teeth in the Fingernails.

Could change his career

Hope Gaff gets 6 weeks and also gets the most votes on Brownlow night

Gotta wonder at what point acts like this, in the modern age, verge into the realm of assault territory? Brayshaw would be fully in his rights to press charges here. Off the ball, unprovoked, unable to defend himself, broken jaw and missing teeth. The fact it happened on a footy field shouldn't provide immunity for the perpetrator of the act. Commit the same act on the street and you're hauled before a magistrate with criminal charges.

Seems the AFL is a low unto themselves.

Not defending Gaff at all, but your comments are way over the top, Fang. Lots of things happen on the footy field that would be assault on the street. Some are within the rules of the game, some not. That's the nature of contract sport.

Gaff's hit was out of character, unacceptable and he'll rightly cop a heavy suspension.

Still, I'd love him at the Dees next year.

what is the West Coast equivalent of Demonland

many thanks

Just had a look at their page on Big Footy. A couple of doozies in there.

Wasn't any malice in it, was clearly trying to hit the pec, Brayshaw changed direction and lowered his body.

Same as Bugg last year.

A player getting blocked off the ball - (which is a free kick), the guy gets sick of it, swings a round arm and hits the jaw not chest.

He'll get his 6 but he's unlucky.

He's only trying to do what Steele did to Oliver but luckily for Steele, Clarry didn't change direction, lower his body and cop it on the chin.

Lets hope so. . Matthews pleaded guilty,  was charged $1000 and de-registered for 4 weeks I believe.

The toxicity with the Brayshaw family would be enormous.

I think his cards have been marked re coming to Melbourne.

One also has to consider his reputation going forward. (Read sponsors) It's a distraction we don't need for the kind of money we would have to offer

Not a great look, out for the year, love to get him to the Dees.

That's ridiculous.  Intentionally assaulting someone 50 m away from the ball is not "the nature of contact sport".

An overly aggressive hip and shoulder while contesting the game falls in that category.

Angus and Andrew's brother Hamish plays for the Eagles.

The Brayshaw's will get over it. Mr Brayshaw probably understands that these things happen in footy. Mrs Brayshaw has been through a lot but I doubt she'd hold a grudge.

Smart sponsors will be happy a very good footballer has joined the Demons. They'll be fine.

Alternatively the family might be happy to see Gaff at neither the Eagles or the Demons.

Rubbish. Chris Judd eye gouged, which i consider to be a criminal offence and chicken winged tackled, 2 despicable acts and he played on regardless with sponsors loving him.

Gaff’s next game against The Dockers will be worth a look

Not sure that this is the way it will pan out! Young Brayshaw looked very very distressed. This type of hit can cause life threatening injuries! Thank God he was wearing a mouthguard.

If he does go to another club, he may well be missing the first few rounds of 2019. Or do pre-season games count?

Gaff obviously thinking of us there. Just trying to make our match against West Coast a little easier, and giving himself a longer off-season to get himself cherry ripe for us Round 1 2019. ;)

it's dirty but i thought the same thing,.. But for real, very sorry for Brayshaw with the broken jaw, how do we think Gaff will go as a team mate of Angus? I'd be a little dark to say the least.

Worse than Buggs effort.

I actually think it was quite similar, in that he was aiming lower and missed.

I suspect I'll be howled down but I would like the club to say that they are no longer pursuing him. Show loyalty/solidarity to/with the Brayshaw family.

We wouldnt have got Gaff anyway.

If Brayshaw has got a Broken Jaw from an off the ball Hit!! stand by for a 10 week holiday!

Can we please take of the "Rose Colored Glasses" We speculate he is coming to Melbourne but that prediction if not so, many on this site would soon turn into "Outrage" Mode and advocate a lengthy spell on the sidelines!

Take the situation for what is was! Very very ordinary by Gaff and I reckon just as bad if not worse than Bugg!

He plays for WEST COAST! an opposition team!

Edited by picket fence

Will scream blue murder if he doesn't get 6, the fact that he was facing Brayshaw really sinks him (Bugg lashed out blind), is enormous in the context of their season (and I certainly think the odds on us winning over there just shortened). All that said and done, I do think Gaff was going for the chest and effd it up, not the same sort of dog as Matthews).

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
