If he wants to come home and we don't have to give anything up for him but his wage (in balance with the rest of our list) it would be crazy not to sign him.

If WCE match that offer and we have to trade for him then it's a different matter. I'm pretty sure the WCE would want a first rounder or a player we aren't willing to give up so it could end up being a bit of a stand off. We might have to give him a long contract and or front end his contract so that we can ward off WC. I'd say WC would be offering anywhere between 3-5 years, don't know about 6 or 7.

Interesting times ahead, good to hear we are at least in the running/discussions for McGovern & Sloane too.

The appeal of acquiring Gaff is that we don't have to trade for him. If circumstances were to change and we did have to trade for him, then it loses appeal IMO. We aren't at all in a position to trade for Gaff. If that were the case I would be surprised if the club even entertained a trade. We simply have nothing to give.

No Jones will likely move back there and replace Vince and Lewis.

All I'm saying is we need to always be looking to improve, not just be content with where we are at.

This is what we all want and are saying, but there are many different ways, of getting there.   The break away speed players who can run, and nail targets on the run, are what we lack.

What are you talking about?

There’s been some superb debate!

Being devil's advocates for a second, that could change if someone reasonably important in our list wanted a change of club. We all say NO! when Jetta or Gus are raised, but they are yet  to re-sign beyond 2018. And that's not even considering the slim possibility that a player within contact might want out.

Sure a RFA could join us for SFA, but more often than not (or ever), particularly in the last 5 years, they are traded for.

There was. We learned that he may or may not be a good player, that he did or didn't win a B&F, and that WCE fans may or may not be shocked on hearing those (possible) facts.

If gaff said he wanted to come to the dees I would suggest the eagles would suss out what the compo would be from the AFL, then figure out what we could possibly give if they matched the offer no doubt there would be talks between both clubs before any decision is made

I can’t imagine a scenario in which he wouldn't be a band one...

He’s young (turned 26 yesterday) he’s playing well (at least in AA squad at this stage) he’ll get a long contract, and he’ll be on good money.

They’ll get band one, unfortunately for them, they look like finishing near the top of the ladder so they would only get a pick somewhere in the 15-18 range.

I don't think he will be as expensive as some have suggested, so the money/salary cap wont be a problem.  Hes not a superstar but hes a polished B+ midfielder, and would be a very sweet icing on our midfield cake.

If he wants to come to the MFC and we want him, hes ours.

He wouldn't want to be as expensive, as the figures being bandied about.

Restricted free agent, I can't see how we wouldn't have to trade for him. Eagles would match the deal, or do what Adelaide did with Danger and threaten to match whilst they worked on a trade.

The only exception to the Eagles matching - It's the perfect situation to rort the system. They take the first round pick compo. We trade them a bunch of stuff at cents on the dollar to make up the rest of what's needed - ie. a couple of 2nd round picks they can package up to move up the draft and a nice depth player (Tyson, Kent, both?) for a guy they are about to delist and a 4th rounder. We just have to sing the praises of how much we love unwanted Eagle (ie. back up ruck Fraser McInness) and get the AFL Integrity department to tick it off.

Until I read your post RJay i’d forgotten we even had a Friday night game. This makes it even more interesting.

He is a free agent, so most clubs will have a look

It is rumoured we are interested

My opinion, everybody is allowed an opinion, unless of course you subscribe to the group speak, opinions are neither right or wrong

Always thought of him as an accumulator, rather than a ball winner, goes missing when the heat is on more often that not,  ie the Sydney game last weekend

If we sign him, means the club rate him, so will support him as a MFC player, there are players on our list at the moment that I have opinions about that are different to others, again it doesn't mean one is wrong and the other right

Unfortunately some on here can't debate, they just deride

What is the frigging difference between an 'accumulator' and a 'ball winner'? Ball winners get the ball, thus accumulating possessions. Accumulators read the play well and regularly get themselves into ball winning positions, and thus increase their number of possessions. Is there something that we need to learn?

Ripe pickings all around, I'd say.

I know. But some of you are searching for reason where there is none. He refuses to be sensible and that is his choice - not much we can do to change it when he does it so willfully.

I reckon he’ll do a Lever and announce his intentions a couple of days after the Granny.

I reckon we make a play for Cale Morton via the rookie draft. Has some jets on him, runs all day, is skillful by foot on either boot and while he looks like an altar boy, with the right environment would be a contested beast. #freecale

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
