Why not? As I stated earlier, if we don't, that allows Hooker to play forward or (which I didn't say earlier) frees Hurley up. I'm not necessarily yet convinced we should play three tall forwards, but I certainly think it's something to consider.

Also to that point, Hogan is killing it wherever he goes right now and has a massive tank along with tmac. Tmac(if fit)/weed CHF/FF respectively with Hogan high up the ground/midfield is not that bad of an option at all. Bring in Hannan and Fritsch who can hit the scoreboard and I assume Lewis will return.

I understand too much Hogan in the middle could be a problem for him and the team but what's so bad about having him as a link man on the wing? He has the marking and foot skills might straighten us up in transition.

Spargo's VFL form has been better than Hannan's do you consider him?

Yeah he is in the mix for sure.  with only a couple of games out of the juniors I figured he'd be given more time at casey but we could do with some youth and spark!  I hear he has some mongrel too which we could use with Kent out of the team

Question for the regular Casey watchers:

How are Baker, Balic, Spargo,  Keilty  and Petty progressing in their respective roles?

Are any of them near ready and if so what roles?

Thanks

Baker is playing a sort of wingman who rebounds from half back role, kind of hard to pin point. He has shown some great signs but still needs work

Balic is doing a medium forward/midfield role. Think ANB/Kent sort of thing. Again showed good signs but still progressing.

Spargo is a similar role to Balic but more forward. Crafty player but a long way off AFL

Keilty and Petty are both Tall KPDs. Both had poor games on the weekend but Keilty should be able to come into form over the next few weeks, he’s been carrying a couple of niggles and a sickness, once he gets over those he SHOULD be in contention for AFL selection, hopefully. Petty is just behind Keilty in his developement buy doing okay.

None are ready for AFL just yet.

Good post Drunkn and accords with my observations from the matches I have seen.

Pity that the Geelong game this Saturday night is followed the next week with a bye for Casey.

lets be honest, he has never had polish,  and i don't want him out of the square.. just higher than the defensive 50. I would love him to recapture this rebounding best, but maybe as circuit breaker freshen up, get him up the ground.

So, let's split the difference and suggest that Hunt should spend time on the wing. I can definitely support that.

I guess you didn’t watch yesterday’s game.

you guessed right esay. if you are referring to throwing in baker, than surely we can't do any worse. we're bog-slow atm. he isn't a little guy, so won't get crunched. who knows, he might step up?

And you could add Anthony McDonald-Tippa to the in doubt list.

Very damning for Pederson

Be interesting if McDonald gets a run McDonald weideman forward, hogan plays mid high half forward, not sure bombers have someone to go with him

Unless we cop a few injuries I think he has played his last game, I would say he would be aware of this

Will be an interesting interchange selection this week given who has been named.

Charlie Spargo, Bayley Fritsch, Mitch Hannan, Tom McDonald, Jeff Garlett, Timothy Smith, Josh Wagner, Joel Smith. Not a lot of midfield cover there.

From that list I would imagine one of either McDonald or T. Smith, Either Wagner or J Smith (I would expect Wagner to be there) and then two of the remaining 4. maybe Fritch and Spargo?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
