Changes Vs Essendon

Recommended Posts

Dropping Stretch is what I'm sure a lot of you will want, but doesn't he deserve another go against a slightly less physical opponent before we terminate his career (as some of you have)?

Ironic given that in the same breath you just said that last years leading goalkicker was "close to career over" after just 2 bad games.

For god’s sake give them a tall marketing target or someone to bring the ball to ground. I don’t care if it’s Pedo or T Mac. Just give them SOMEONE. If Hogan is going to play up the ground then he and the rest of the side need someone to kick the [censored] thing to when they look up.

Harmes still isn’t up to the level as a starter for mine.

I cant remember a Hunt kick that wasn’t a shank.

Stretch looked out of his depth. Maybe the occasion got to him.

I can’t be bothered thinking any further about who comes out. Kudos to those who can.

This [censored] club.

Totally agree.

We need multiple targets, the current structure isn’t working.

T-Mac half a game at Casey surely after that long out of the game.  St Kilda maybe.

I would prefer a tall marking target than can kick straight and potentially get two or three goals PLUS bring the ball to ground busting packs and the occasional pack mark.  The only option available who has form at Casey.... Pedders.

In: Petty, Balic, Lewis, Fritsch

Out: ANB, Stretch, Kent, Harmes

B - Jetta, O Mac, Lever

HB - Hibberd, Petty, Hunt

C - Jones, Oliver, Brayshaw

HF - Petracca, Hogan, Fritsch

F - Garlett, Weideman, Melksham

R - Gawn, Salem, Tyson

I - Lewis, Balic, Wagner, Vince

Notes: We lose a bit of speed but clean ball use is more important and if you move the ball well it means you are less reliant on running as the ball does the running for you. Essendon are also tall.

ANB are Stretch were a class below last night. Harmes hasn't had a good game all year so others need a chance to perform.

In: Fritsch, Hannan and T-Mac (If ready)

Out: Kent, ANB and Weid (if T-Mac returns).

Dropping the Weid is crazy talk. You want to keep spuds like Harmes, Wagner and Stretch ahead of him WTF.

Hannan and Fritsch out of form Pedersen in form don't want him in. I'm willing to give Fritsch another go but Hannan is a slap in the face to Pedersen.

T.Mac to steady the backline which is a shambles and Pedo to help out the Weid with Hogan playing further up the ground.

Petty got 5 touches in the VFL gonna play him off that form are you? I can't believe no one has Pedersen in the side we need a 3rd tall.

Balic has only played 1 good game of VFL football.

Too much serial black gloom on this thread. It's obvious that the absence of T.Mac and Viney has seriously affected the balance of the mid field and the whole structure of the forward line. Once you have balance and structure in place the likes of Garlett, Harmes, Neal Bullen and Melksham are able to play their natural games. That semblance of balance resulted in Melbourne missing the 8 last year by .5 of a % point, despite the absence of Gawn, Hogan,  Jones and Viney.

It would seem, as well, that the coaches box is a wee bit behind the 8 ball with its instructions about long bombs and lowering of the eyes. Either that or the players just don't listen or they feel way too pressured to respond properly.

I had a phone call today from a bloke whose wine I sell. He was on North's List during the Barassi era. He said the coach is not up to it. He says, by the way, the same about the current North coach.

I bet a thousand dollars that Richmond fans - and the media - said for years Hardwick wasn't up to it. I bet another thousand that for the first couple of years Bomber Thomson wasn't up to it. I also know Kennett wanted to sack Clarkson in 2010.

There are a lot of 'wise and foolish virgins' - as the Parable goes, on this site.

Also, to those who feel that because they follow a footy club that it 'owes' them ultimate success have been reading too much Ayn Rand.

Why? Even if he's not fully fit he will still be better than half the team. I'll lose my [censored] if he plays at Casey in a must win game. Play your best players T.Mac is one of our best players.

I don't think we have a choice. We need an extra tall for Essendon in the backline and Frost has had a chance and failed. Pederson is not a backman. Do you really think ANB, Stretch or Harmes will play any better than Balic? Give him a go.

If he is fit, great, bring him in...didn't know he was right to go. So I'm assuming we are dumping the idea of him being a forward this year?

As long as Weid and\or Pedo can do something up forward I would dump the idea.

Garlett has to be dropped to find some form. Most of his goals this year have been gimmes and his defensive pressure work is at an all time low.

Spargo is renowned for his pressure and tackling and he’s got on end of some goals in the VFL. If he can bring half of what Jack higgjns did for Richmond last night it’ll be a worthy inclusion.

Inject some new blood Goodwin and send Jeffy a required message. Leave him in and what message does he receive?

Speed is our biggest issue.

If we pick a slow side on Ethihad, we will get killed.

T Mac will play this week.

Nup never ever said Frost is a spud!! I like his verve and dash AND PACE!

RE Jeffy

You are not going to gain any consistency or pressure to perform when you play two good ones and two extremely poor ones. A talented player who needs to be dropped to develop these principles. It sends a strong message

Perform or else!! Two really bad games and you want to give him another??

How typically Melbourne!

Nup Not in my team!

Out:

Kent : Injured.... replace with Pederson

Harmes : omitted....... replace with Frost (we need his Height and speed to go against Daniher )

Garlett : Times up....... Replace with Spargo

Stretch : Good VFL......replace with Oskar Baker

ANB : Lost form.......replace with Fritsch

Now I know you say what about Lewis. If it wasn't for his hand injury he would have been dropped.

Jetta is still carrying an injury. who do you replace him with, our defence is 3 old players who are carrying injuries and 3 young ones who are still learning their craft.

We are now in deep DOO DOO's

We still stand a chance against the Bombers, they are just as bad.

Frost won't be on Daniher if he plays IMO he shouldn't.

Oscar takes the best forward everyone knows that.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
