Today's Age article indicates we're getting something for facilities but not sure if this is just Casey.

Also with new MCG deal tenant clubs should get around $170k extra per home game, so for us about $1.2-$1.3m per year.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/inside-story-how-the-mcg-won-the-grand-final-for-the-next-40-years-20180413-p4z9jq.html

But the MCG returned serve with an offer of about $8 million each year for its tenant clubs, roughly guaranteeing an extra $170,000 for each tenant club and every home.

The only Victorian clubs overlooked in the complex multi-stadium deal were Essendon, whose government submission came in late, North Melbourne and Richmond. Hawthorn, which spent much of 2017 in an administrative black hole and is still finalising plans for its new Dingley home, did not apply.

the afl recently got etihad stadium for next to nothing. they are laughing, so why should they get $225M of public money. Makes no sense at all.

The government must not want the AFL to sell/demolish ETIHARD.

The precinct has a focal point, and this Must fit into the cities blueprint for further expansion to the docks.

The AFL couldhave/shouldhave gone on to build new boutique stadiums, inner city (eastgate), and in the Sth-East, Dandenong-Sth.

Eastgate better located for regional supporters than EtiHard.

Dandenong-Sth better to service all of Eastern Victoria. they've dropped the ball the AFL, particularly Dandenong-Sth. A bit like they have with Tasmania.  Those people are hard done buy, footy people.

The people of the East are also hard done buy, for getting to games, although the government initiative of Sky-Rail will help somewhat.

It is still too far all the way in to inner Melbourne for Eastern Vics, especially for VFL games, which IF they were at Dandenong-Sth, would benefit most Victorians.

Probably looking for a similar MCG deal that Collingwood have (minimum 17 games, whole Ponsford stand reserved for both home and away etc)

The club have placed a statement on their website - sounds like they are pretty positive about the deal

Here is an updated article:  https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/andrews-government-set-to-splash-cash-on-footy-stadiums-20180412-p4z9bg.html

The 'cash splash' has the makings of classic 'pork-barelling'!!  Nonetheless mfc could get involved:

1) The Etihad precint earmarked to get $225 million.   Could we piggy back that?  The Docklands area has been on our radar in the past.  There is 'Docklands Park', a rather barren looking grassed area.  It could be put to much better use for many sports/community uses while keeping its 'open space' aspect.  Plenty of room for a footy oval, MFC trainining and admin facilities etc.   And cbd and southbank dwellers could use good community sporting/recreational facilities.

2) Part of the broader plan is for major development of the MCG, including revamp of the Southern Stand - not sure if this means just the arena itself or includes the wider precinct.  Is it feasible that part of Gosch's paddock be converted to a proper oval and facilities befitting an AFL club, with other community and commercial facilities?

The article says this has been two years in the making.  Suspect it is no coincidence that we have sold Leighoak to get some capital and put our 'chips on the table'.  Also, Peter Jackson seemed upbeat about finding 'a spot' with commercial facilities (in or around the cbd) this year.

Could have my hunch about 'Docklands Park' or 'Gosch's Paddock' been correct?  Caroline Wilson is quoted as saying:

'...What I think has happened is the AFL asked for $300m... but they ended up getting $225m to redevelop the Docklands ground and some precinct around it,” Wilson said ... A parcel of land has been virtually given to the AFL... '  . https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/report-afl-set-to-move-headquarters-as-part-of-deal-with-victorian-state-government/news-story/4207e7f52f339404e81bcd5dc2cfdbbe

There isn't much public land around either Etihad or the MCG.  So could it be 'Docklands Park' (or one of the smaller park lands nearby).  The article speculates the land could be close to the MCG (but less likely) which effectively means part of the carpark or 'Gosch's Paddock'.

Interesting that the government has gone all secret on which parcel of land has been gifted...

Still can't help but think that our facilities are involved in this deal...Leighoak sale was strategic and no mere accident of timing and PJ said they will have found a spot this year.  Lets hope this our facilities are part of this land deal :):pj:

Eddie McGuire announcing tonight that the State Government tipping in huge amounts of money for redevelopment of MCG. That is the good part.

He also announced that the AFL is, along with the State Government, spending money on developing Western Oval, Moorabbin, ikon Park (Princes Park) and of course Victoria Park.

There are further plans for the Docklands.

Guess who still has no training ground in the city and hasn't got anything other than money for that sheizenhole Casey? Can't help but think we are shafted again and have been left behind. Eddie everywhere has had a big hand in all this and we are nowhere again. All this money and nothing for the MFC.

We have been  speaking about a potential inner city home base for years and you'd think something may have come in this huge plan, but no, nothing.

I am happy to be made to look a fool of we announce something tomorrow, but certainly wasn't mentioned by Eddie.

An update on new location of AFL House in the docklands precinct.  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-02/proposed-site-of-new-afl-house-revealed

This caught my eye:  ' The space is on the opposite side of the road to Ron Barassi Snr Park, which is home to a public AFL-size community oval'.

Could that be the site of our future facillity.  Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part...

...it does fit Peter Jackson's narrative when he announced the sale of Leighoak - a site with commercial potential and community facilities in the cbd area...

While would always prefer a facility in the MCG precinct I'd be quite happy for it to be at Ron Barassi Snr Park, Docklands.   Very aptly named?.

I didn't know there was a park named after Ron Barassi Snr. Is there any specific reason why this park was named after him?  Wikipedia tells me that he was killed at Tobruk and "was the first VFL footballer to lose his life in the conflict". (It's a bit ambiguous - unclear whether that means he was the first to be killed in WW2 or the first at Tobruk). I'm perfectly comfortable that a park be named after any of our defence force personnel killed in action, but I was wondering if there's more to it?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
