Gus might have been best on today. Great game.

But maybe his best moment was when he kept his head up and bumped a Saints player square in the side and kept after the loose ball. Hurt the guy too. Most importantly he kept that head of his well out of trouble and was safe to keep contesting.

    I don’t feel for the Saints fans though. Years of being kicked while down by other supporters has made me bitter and spiteful. I get a bit of a kick at seeing them seethe.

    There was a bloke near me who barracked for the Saints and he was in a bit of pain blaming umpires and the players etc. It made me realise we are becoming a good team because I remember carrying on for the last umpteen years getting frustrated and looking to blame anything or anyone. I was very calm today. I enjoyed watching the footy. Gus was great. He has a great winning attitude.

    I'm very appreciative to go to the footy today and watch a game where my team was clearly superior to the Saints. We had winners all over the ground and the Saints only had one good player in Stephens. Things can change quickly and Gill will try his best to create deals that favor them but they were poor today with very few prospects. Boy I'm glad we finally look like we're out of that awful rut.

    Touch wood, fingers crossed.

    Gus is a smart footballer. I hope he can stay injury free and play some more footy like today.

    Turnovers can also be handballs. When you dispose of the ball 32 times the law of averages means you may turn over more. Harmes will be dropped before Gus.

    One of Gus' best games yet. Also 8 inside 50s and 659m gained and most have him in top 4 on ground.

    Hmm flip side of that means he was going at 75% disposal efficiency.

    A couple of long center clearances in to outnumbered forward 50's and strong defensive marks in those turnover stats I'd suggest. Kicks could be better but really it's part of the game plan. Bomb it forward and let the forwards do the rest.

    His kicking was very bad in the first half (lucky that Spargo could play out the game after one of those and that was probably the only one that hit the target in the 1st half), but improved substantially after half time.

    A very encouraging performance and loved the gutsy mark he took early in the game. Thought his hand balling in tight was much better than what he has previously shown at AFL level.

    Also nice to see him bounce up after a few big hits.

    Brayshaw was excellent. He is an upgrade on Salem in that midfield. Brayshaw did well. He will be a good addition to our midfield should we keep him in there.

    Gawn and Gus have combined for some beautiful clearances from centre bounces the last couple of weeks.   We have a lot of fantastic mids but until now only Jack Viney seemed to have that telepathic connection with Maximus.  It is a real gift.

    Would have to agree. He is starting to get some confidence in  his game. Worth noting in the last couple of weeks that we have l;ifted when Gus has been in the middle and up & about.

    Liking him a lot in this mid/defensive sweeper role, may he have an interrupted confidence building string of games delivering us to PEAK GUS.

    Applause to the coaches. Goody said in the presser, they just thought it was best for Brayshaw to go back into the middle and play his natural game, its where he was drafted - an inside mid.

    ... Hopefully that also frees up Salem to play outside.

    loved Gus's game, he was back where he belongs and showed why he went at No.3. If he can maintain that form he will share that critical mid field / half back / half forward role and just may help us finally click as a side.

    Thought the kick to Spargo, with three Saints in the vicinity was courageous and the right option, he placed it right meaning the odds were a Spargo mark or free, it was the later and taking the gutsy option led directly to a goal.

    It didn't look as bad as I first thought when watching the replay and I can't recall what other options he had so that's probably fair.

    He had a handball option, which would have led to a slower attack. The kick was the braver option and it was a decent kick.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
