The Jack Watts in 2018 Thread

That is what irks me about this thread.  It is nearly always 'bumped' by people to put him down and to bait other posters to defend him.  It is not very becoming of them.

I no longer discuss Jack's games as it is just feeds the trolls.

If this thread was locked a new one would pop up within a few days or the weekly 'Non MFC Games' thread would be derailed.

Best to contain the spitefulness to one thread.

But you keep coming back to this thread and commenting......

Ironic that us winning yesterday also ended Port Adelaide and Jack Watts chance of finals this year.

Makes you wonder what goes through his mind when he sees Jones, Jetta, McDonald and Gawn on the verge of seeing their first finals actions in 12 years.

Hey Jack, what are you doing in three weeks?

Come on, it wasn't his choice.

It would hurt him to see us in the finals after all these years and for him not to be a part of it.  He didn't force a move, the club just believed it was time to move on.

We made the right decision, but I also feel a little bad for the guy.  He would have been pumped to be part of this after all that time.  Hopefully he will still be cheering us on in September.

Probably something similar to Deledio, though Deledio wanted to leave the Tigers and Jack didn't want to leave us.

I feel a bit sorry for Jack, but he hopefully has next year to try again.

At the same time I also feel sorry for JT.

Both boys were loyal Dees and would have loved to play finals with us.

That's life unfortunately, he had a few goes.

Yes & no Sue. If he'd had a decent dip he would still be with us. I always thought he was too smart to get hurt.

Why isnt JT playing? Surely he's a better option than some of the ones they've been selecting.

I know him and Jonesy always talked about having success together, but i remember an article that stuck out to me at this time last year after the season that Jones had grown frustrated by Watts lack of application off field.

We had no choice but to part ways with Jack.

Jack had numerous chances given to him to be an integral part of the team. He didn’t want it enough.

He will wish his mates well....

If you go on Port boards, most will agree with you.

Doesn't have the leg speed unfortunately, struggles to keep up with the quicker players in the SANFL. As for Jack Watts if he wasn't playing for a club that i hate I would wish him well.

Thanks DD, thought as much. With finals on the line, quite bizarre tbh.

he had many chances , he was a loyal demon , but his time was up . it was the right move for both the club and him

sadly he wont be part of our finals.

Still got 1 year on his contract does JW? Hinkley has definitely been frustrated by Jack this year.

Don't get me wrong there is a bit of sadness to it. He spent a very long time in a dismal environment and was quite often unfairly the poster boy for our failings. But at the end of the day if he was good enough he'd still be here.

For Jack its not just a matter of saying that he was unlucky and didn't choose to leave. He could have been part of it if he really wanted to.

I was a big fan.  Thought Goodwin wasn't a fan from the get go. He was harshly treated by the footy club.  A more experienced coach wouldn't have sent him packing.  We would be better with him.

But at least the worst possible scenario I could ever have imagined (him knocking us out of a finals spot/game off his own boot), won't happen this year.

jack had a day out on media street a few weeks ago about how normally at that time of year he was planning what he'd do on his holidays in september and he was looking forward to finally tasting finals footy in 2018

yeah...but nah...

i still can't fathom that a player of his undoubted skill has been dropped by every senior coach he has had throughout ten years in the system; it's an absolute indictment on him as a player

so happy to have fritsch!

You strike me as someone who would have him back in a heartbeat.

Watts was the epitome of everything wrong with the last 12 years at the club. How some MFC fans actually revered him as one of their all time favourite players is beyond me and says a lot about where we've been.

Wrong.  But even if I did want him back, to stick the boot into him for missing the finals is not nice.   To blame him (or probably any one individual) for the last 12 years is ridiculous.  We had plenty of other half-arsed players but he gets stick because he was the #1 pick messiah.  Nothing more likely to make people bitter than a failed messiah.

I hardly think throwing a little barb his way is 'sinking the boot in' but I get what you're saying

The best footy of Jack Watts' career was that month around QB last year. We shouldn't have let him go. He should have fought to stay.

He's no-one now that he's not a Melbourne player. Melbourne goes on without him though.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
