The Jack Watts in 2018 Thread

Ugottobekidding

Recommended Posts

Isn't the point of forums to contribute any point we feel is relevant (though not bigoted)... censorship I can do without, but much like TV, if you dont like the show - go to another thread, threads don't have to be opened if you don't like the topic.

On a side note, people are also allowed to write with vindication, naivety, self righteousness, calmness, compassion and information they think they know from people who may or may not be in the know. It's all ok... - play the ball, not the man.

Be surprised if he makes it too the finals. Has very little impact. I' say Watts is at the crossroads. Does he want it or doesn't he?

It’s difficult to judge Port’s forward line while Paddy is injured (I think he’s back this week though) as Dixon has had to ruck and that other young kid (Marshall I think) is out with personal leave, meaning Watts was there no.1 almost and he never does well in that circumstance.

i just hope he keeps his spot so we can see him line up against us in a Friday night game (it’ll be an interesting dynamic to watch).

It would solve the censorship etc problems if the forum software had an 'ignore thread' option.  Then those who don't want to read stuff about Watts could put this one on ignore and not be tempted to click on it.

Why not this one? Or, are we pandering to the cave bound, socially inept trolls who struggle with a social contract?

Jumbo I don't like Fox news, shut it down or ignore? Andrew Bolt shut him down or ignore? Left or right wing extremists? I choose to ignore them but let them have a their say no problems. I don't think censoring idiots makes them go away.

I'm not a fan of censorship, but really this thread should be closed down. It does no one any credit to be banging on about Jack. Just demeaning diatribe about an ex-player.   It should stop.

We should talk about our current crop of players like Spargo and Fritsch.  Anyone but Watts.

There are 21 threads on Demonland's main page.  There are 12 I've never opened.

No-one is forcing you to keep coming back to this thread.

I’m not sure what playing in September has to do with this argument and whether or not we will.

All i am seeing is pretty much the same as he gave at our club. I’m not seeing a miracle transformation. I wish him well but the first six games away from us has not seen him find a hunger for the ball that he didnt have with us for a large percentage of his career.

If we appreciate Watts, all we can do is to wish him well, and so be it. The statistics seem to indicate that Bailey F is doing OK at his age and stage of development, whereas Jack W seems to have plateaued, once again.

Precisely, but we do keep coming back to check out a former player; must be a slice of patriotism in some way.

Yes and no - probably a good conversation to have after we win the premiership - over Port! :)

True ManDee, I guess I just get annoyed at seeing the thread pop-up all the time, and the general level of bile directed at a guy that does not deserve the hate. (in fact no-one does other than child molesters and politicians)

That is what irks me about this thread.  It is nearly always 'bumped' by people to put him down and to bait other posters to defend him.  It is not very becoming of them.

I no longer discuss Jack's games as it is just feeds the trolls.

If this thread was locked a new one would pop up within a few days or the weekly 'Non MFC Games' thread would be derailed.

Best to contain the spitefulness to one thread.

I think there has been a lot of argument that Watts is who he is because of the MFC.

Or that Watts just needed to be cuddled, cajoled, coached or collaborated into brilliance.

And that his lack of intensity was some sort of football genius that was misinterpreted by mere mortals.

I agree that it these have all been debunked, and its time for this to all be put to bed.

i like Fritsch.

I started the first thread questioning his intensity before he played a senior game, and was absolutely howled down for it.  :)  Could bookend JW's Demonland career @Nasher ?

Hemingway, live your work but have a rare disagreement on this one.

I love Jack Watts, I wish him the best and hope he does well at his new club. I agree with you about people denigrating him. It’s disappointing.

However, I am interested in our list now and part of that is the ins and outs and Fritsch is the player we got with the pick for Watts. It is interesting to see what Fritsch has brought into he team and what we lost with Watts. These stats give a good indication of that and they paint a very good picture

Thanks for your comments.

I understand your thought process regarding the Fritsch and Watts comparison, but I really don't see the point. The former is the future and the latter the past.

I guess given the thousands of words about Jack over the years, I am just heartily sick of on-going reference to him.

I was a Jack supporter but now recognize he is best gone.

I would prefer to see any discussion about Fritsch's game and his bright future simply stand alone.

He is not Jack and he does not play like Jack.

And I think we all recognize that we have gained more than we lost.

I think your point would be valid if they weren't playing a similar role.

It is uncanny that the pick traded for was used to pick up a third tall, slender type, smooth moving forward  with great disposal. Point of difference being that Fritsch watches the ball into the hands both on the ground,  but especially in the air.

Fritsch also appears football focussed, is appreciative of his opportunity and has some humility.

Fritsch will end up a better Watts than Watts will ever be.

except for when he doesn't - a la spilt mark in defensive 50 when free...but that'd be me being a nit picking [censored] to prove a point.

Other option would be to bundle this and other threads into a "where are they now" thread.

I have to confess, I usually check on Port, not so much for Watts, but to see how our other exes (Trengove and Barry) are doing.

I did an interesting comparison of Jack Watts this year with Jack Watts at Fritch's age. Watts was better as a 21-22 year old! -

Surely this thread is a wind up? There's more chance pick 31 will do more damage in year 1 than Watts doing much more than 12 possessions and a goal a game.

Okay, I don't mean to pump my own tyres up but this statement has proved to be correct so far and any poster who suggested that we were going to be haunted by losing Watts should be kicked off this forum for not knowing footy. 'Vineytime', 'Picketfence', 'Treox' and about 100 other posters should be ashamed. It's supporters like you that we have a weak culture, accepting guys that squib the contest.
Unless you guys are ecstatic with Watts' 14 possessions and 1 goal a game average in a team sitting % out of the top 4 ?

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
